| I'm back home for a day or two and wanted to take the opportunity to drop in and say "HI".
This summer is starting to finally take shape and is being very good to me. I've been on the water 5-6 days a week and have been lucky enough to establish a fairly consistant shallow water program that has been putting plenty of "slots" in the boat, and making my customers happy. I was lucky enough to win a tournament a couple weeks ago with "Rippeneyes" as my partner, and had another tournament win slip thru my fingers this last Saturday. I still managed a 7th place finish, but the 3 we lost by the net would have diffinetly won it for us. Oh well, thats fishing.
As most of you know, our summer is running a little behind schedule, and now that the water is finally warming up to more normal temps, we are just now getting into a normal summer program. We still have somewhat clear water on Mille Lacs, but the algea is starting to develope. We've had over 2 weeks of hot still weather, which has warmed the surface water alot. Before this hot spell, our surface temp was still below 70 degrees, and now during the day will warm to the mid to high 70's, and drop back down to the low 70's at night. Now what I'd like to see is a big blow to come in for a few days and really stir that lake up good!! Break up all the balls of bait, and mix that water up so it is a little more consistant from top to bottom, then we'll really have a HOT bite!
The smallmouth are active on the reef edges and have been very suseptible to top waters on the calm surface water, or else on tube jigs down low on the edges. The muskies have just started to get good. We've been seeing them for awhile, and getting plenty of follows, but not alot of biters. The best bite, as always, is just in front of a storm. Now that the water is warming, we are seeing more of those brutes up on top of the rocks, and they are getting active. We're forcast to have a line of storms come thru on Wed. afternoon and into Thurs., and I plan on being on the water with something heavier than #8 line on my reel!
Hope all of you are having a great summer, and wish you all well. If any of you are going to be around Mille Lacs, get in touch with me and I'll help you get on some fish. 763-360-5811.
Oh yeah, I'd love to post some pictures for you to see, but when I've tried in the past, I got rejected because my pictures were too big. If any of you can help me downsize my pictures so I could post them, please call me at home, and walk me thru the process, and I'll put up some trophy photo's for you to see. 763-315-4440 | |
