Like promised a report after just getting off the waters not to long ago. Actually fished with a good friend and client this morning in his rig. The eastern break of the lower Bay had some good concentrations of fish tucked into the weedbeds of cabbage and coontail. We worked these edges snapping 1/4 to 3/8th. ounce round head and weedless jigs tipped with Berkley "Gulp" although also using Power Bait and taking some fish as well.
Also south of Escanaba working the western banks there too where scattered weeds are found. That's the incredible fishery we've got out here with just too many places to fish and not enough time.
Catching 11 keeper size walleye, largest 23 inches and 38 undersize fish. Kept only 4 fish for a supper meal along with some sweet corn and rib-eye steaks on the grill tonight!
Water surface temps. running in the lower 70' and winds from the NE pushing between 5 to 10 mph.
Keep in touch and we'll talk fishing tomorrow,
Some good fishing is ahead, Capt. Marty

Marty,
Any word on the trolling bite down south of you? Cedar River area and north?

Trolling bite seems to be doing OK. Haven't heard to many reports of late, actually I spent the bulk of yesterday off the Cedar River, fished walleye for about 2 hours north winds made for some really tough fishing so ended up working the river mouth, river and harbor area catching 7 nice Smallmouth Bass, biggest about 3 and 1/2 pounds.
Today spent the day doing some searching south of Gladstone finding a bunch of really good weedbeds holding some Walleye. Ended up with 7 fish, 4 keepers and 3 undersized. All snap-jigging,
Cold front took it's tole on the surface temps. North winds for the past 3 days dropped surface temps to 56' to 60'
Keep in touch, we'll update

Thanks Marty. I am headed over that way this month at least once. Are the Smallmouth in the weeds too, or out on the breaks and on the rocks?
