| What major adjustments do you make when the fall cooler temps hit on water like Bay of Green Bay, Bays De Noc, Saginaw Bay, and like areas? I know the fish come in and are easier to get to, more concentrated. But what techniques, trolling speed, and location adjustments do you make? | |

| Well this is for Huron/Vermillion, Ohio on Lake Erie but I would say it is a gradual return to the tactics used in the spring which for me means moving away from the spoons off dipseys/jets back to cranks off boards. We still mix in some dipseys and spoons as they continue to produce into November but the mix may go from 80% spoons to 30%
Cranks up high - top ten feet over deeper water will become a mainstay the later in the year.
One of my mottos is "Speed Kills" - I troll faster than most people regardless of the time of year, but I will slow down in the spring and fall (probally still going faster than most people - BUT slower than my summer speeds)

I'll echo Steve's comments, as most of my fall fishing experience is in the same areas he has described. Usually upsizing to bigger cranks is part of the plan (I'm thinking of trying some of my musky stuff this fall). As Steve said a bit slower than summer speeds as a rule, following the water temperature's decline, but sometimes a little speed will put fish in the boat. The night bite seems to get better as the days shorten, as well. A warm day after a cool down seems to get that "up high" action going.
