Location: Essexville, MI./Saginaw Bay. | What a beautiful day it was today, while being on the Saginaw River with a good friend. Pictured below is me and just one of the 30 walleyes me and Bob (Chamook Man) caught on the Saginaw River today. Great, huh? Ya....except this was the only one we boated that was larger than 15 inches. 15 1/4 to be exact. I lost two others that would have been keepers, but that don't count I guess. But indeed, the fishing today was fantastic between the walleyes and the many other biting fish specie we caught.
I could not keep two rods in the water after about 12:00pm with the little walleyes letting you only get about 2 or 3 jigs up and down before slamming the Lime Green Chenille Jig. Chenille Jigs, you say? Yup, these are the jigs Bob himself puts together and are about as good a fenesse jig as I've ever seen and used. They are a simple round head 1/4 to 3/8 jig head, with simple Medium Ice Chenille raped around it from the grub holder part of the jig, down the wire hook shaft about half way. This allows it to fall quit fast even when baited with a good sized shiner. Exactly what the walleyes wanted today. So after a little detour to Gander Mountain on the way home, and $51.00 later, I'm in the Fly Tiers mode using jig heads versus trout hooks.
I'm also excited about what our river fishery will be like next year when all these little rascles grow up.

Thinking of doing a weekday (Casting/Husky Jerk) river night trip here pretty soon. Usually have trouble finding company, because of the weird time involved. Weekends are not good for this because of the multitude of shore fishermen. Most of the time just me and my Labradour "Otter". Would that interest you? |

PM Me your contact phone numbers and we'll get together for a night trip. My bud and two friends caught about 40 walleyes yesterday from his boat during the day (With only one keeper) but went 1 for 2 last night from shore in about an hour, with both in the 4 to 6 pound range. That tells me we're awful close to prime time night fishing. The only spoiler is enough rain to turn things cloudy.
