So far so good! This bad boy was locked into one heck of a brawl with a big 8. He had knocked down the 8, still locked together, when I took him in the neck at 225 yards. Sue was as excited as I , and it was very cool to watch that fight. He's 19.25 wide inside spread by 14.5 tall.

Not a total monster, but I'm darned happy. Back to the woods! The black powder rifle will be my only weapon for the rest of season unless it's really wet out there.

The Minnesota 3B season started good today too!

Opened at 6:48 for me, and was over about 7:19.

Didn't take the camera in the field today because it was drizzling out. Digitals and water don't go well together.

10 points
18.5" spread

There is a 14 pointer running around where I hunt with 2 matching drop tines, but he didn't show himself today, and I wasn't willing to pass this one up!

My son Brandon turned 12 on Friday 11-19, so we shared our first opening day together. My father, my brother, and I have been passing up small bucks now for five years and it's starting to show. Last year we had two bucks that scored over 130" and this year Brandon took the first good one: an 8 pt. buck with an inside spread of 16". Brandon's first buck was felled at 7 am on opening morning.

Absolutely!!!! I just wish I could attach the picture. I'm trying to shrink it so I can send it, but I'm not having any luck.

Steve, Thats an awesome buck! Congrats. The others are as well! Jerry,, If your experience was anything like mine, It won't matter if I don't get one this year at all! Chase got his deer again opening weekend at 130 yards with my 12 gage! Placed the shot well enough to buckle it in it's tracks! The excitement on a 13 yr olds face can never be forgotten even after I made him sit 2 more hours before going to look at it! Photo is of the buck that we watched for 2 hours and didn't quite make it accross our fence line as the neighbor piled it up on it's way to Chase. Just Priceless!
Good Luck

EAB! ARgh! I knew that it was bound to happen! Saw our first deer Saturday morn around 7. Walked about 30 yards from the satnd where Eric and I were. A basket 6 pointer. Then around 8, another buck, a nice 8, came by. Had to watch this one go, too. Finally, around 10:00, we saw a couple does. Eric made a great shot at 150 yards! She ran about 20 yards, and piled up in a ditch.

Sunday, we saw 13 deer, and two bucks. The bucks were with a group of does on the neighbor's property. He took one of the does after 3 shots, and the deer boogied the wrong way, away from us. Saw three does for a bit, and didn't get a shot.

We're back out tomorrow for the rest of the season, or untill I get a good buck, whichever comes first! Good luck to all, and be safe.

Happy Turkey Day to all WFer's!

Here's a sixer Keith got today at about 130 yards with his 'new' Mossin Nagant M44 1945 7.62X54R. he and Brian are hunting together. Brian is still in college, so is a 'poor' student and truly appreciates the venison. Sue and I filled her tag with a fork. We have a buck and a doe tag left, so Brian and Keith will be sitting tomorrow through Saturday trying to fill those.

Brandon and Jerry,
Congatulations on a fine buck! I've been hunting with mny boys here and out west since they were old enough, and still look forward to deer season with my boys as much as or more than any other time of the year.

Well, the regular season wrapped up nicely for us here. We filled most of our available tags, with Keith leaving one open for Black Powder season, and one bonus for a late season bow doe. I had a great week!

Shot this one at 7:50am opening morning. He snuck in while I was watching squirrels. Too many squirrels. I've seen enough squirrels. Please no more squirrels.
