Location: Essexville, MI./Saginaw Bay. | It was killing me all day that at least 6 guys I knew were all fishing the Saginaw River today, and were having way more fun than me sitting at home scratching my.....well, lets just say scratching.
It was sunny all day, but never got above 34 degrees. And with the wind factored in, even though not strong, it hovered around 27 considering the wind chill. So even though I wanted to go badly, I had a good excuse not to (I guess).
Anyway, around 3:00 PM, Linders Anglers Edge fishing show came on the Outdoor Channel. And the first thing they did was start to catch walleyes with jigs, and it was more than I could stand.
Called my buddy and asked if he wanted to do the night thing with me again? So we met at the ramp at 5:30pm and hit the river. Like the time before, things started out slow and we had only hooked 6 fish by 9:00pm including one massive sheepshead. But the walleye were also very much bigger.
But from 9:00pm to 10:30 I honestly could not tell you how many we caught. We fished a different section of river on a whim of mine, and we could not go 30 yards without a hookup. I sent my bud home with a limit, including one that was 8 or 9 pounds, and we released the rest. I also had a real monster on that striped drag, caught my level wind in a bad spot in the spool and stopped it cold. Of course then it pulled off from the stress.
Posted a couple pictures of the smaller ones. Notice the first one has jewlery/tag in it's mouth. Us guys around here, cherish that like it was a goose band.

The surface temp last night on the river was 37.2. So we're only a few calm nights away from looking down a hole ourselves. | |
