| I need help guys, I'm tryin to spend my old mans money for him!! He lives on the lake in the Ozarks and is tired of breakin his cheap equipment on 30 pound kitties! What would be a perfect setup for those big cats! All I can find are surf rods but think there would be a good rig for him in the $100.00-$150.00 range! I was thinking a couple of 9 foot Fenwicks with a Shimano Symetre 2500?
Any catfish guys here? Thanks and as always,
Good Luck

| If he fishes alone, I would shy away from a 9 foot rod as it makes it tougher to net the fish with one hand. Their mouths are so soft, they are almost impossible to lose once they are hooked, so you don't need alot of give in the rod. I prefer a shorter 7' stiffer rod. A tough reel with a good drag is important, I am sure the Shimano you mentioned would be fine. | |

| Muskie gear!
Get over to the MF site, and check out the Buy/Sell board. I'd suggest a 7'6" MH St Croix Premier, Abu 6500C3, and 50-80 lb Superbraid line. I like Tuff Line, but Power Pro, Courtland, or any of the others would work. There are some good deals to be had, as guys are always upgrading. | |

Tyee.
Is your dad looking for a (KEEL HAUL) outfit, or something that he can actually play the Cat with for a while. The picture below is of fish my clients caught while we were trolling Thundersticks Jrs. for walleyes in a local warm water discharge area. The rods/reels we were using were the Gold Cup LC combo kits, with the telescoping (Walleye Angler) 7 foot rods BP offers. Same outfit Kieth K uses when trolling for walleyes. For $89.00 per outfit, it does it all and beats down any stubburn kitty . They even cast fairly decent, if your used to casting level winds.
