I should say this is his first fish that took any amount of skill to catch. We went out in Winneconne on the 29th of Dec. Met my brother out there and set up his shack. The fish were there but very hard to get them to bite. Alec (my son) just watched how I worked the rod and then it was his turn. The look on his face when that spring bobber started to go down was priceless. One thing about my son, he is very observant. He likes to watch me set the hook on fish because I really give 'er. So when it was time to strike, that blueguill got the surprise of its life! Best part of it was, it was the biggest of the day. I am so proud of him and can't wait for more special times with him out on the water. Here he is with his catch.

Rich.

There will be no fonder memories for me, than the times I spent with my dad on the water or in the woods. And I suspect those same feelings and memories will be forever etched in your sons mind over his years of life, and eventually with his own kids. (IMPO) I truly believe no other father and son teams, share such a life enduring/bonding experience.

I have spoken of it before... My Dad has been gone now for almost 10 years... There isn't a day that goes by that I do not miss him greatly. But, I have such great memories... And, I treasure those of my Dad, me and my son and daughters, three generations fishing together... My youngest daughter is the owner of "Grandpa Bill's Crappie Pole"... It is among her most prized possessions... Amid Hello Kitty "stuff" and a mountain of trophies from Dance and Gymnastics... on her wall hangs a Berkley Cherrywood rod and a Johnson Century Reel.

Rich, those are the memories you are beginning to build... You will have a small slice of immortality because of those moments.

The added benefit is that, without ever stopping "parenting", you are engaged in an activity that lets you and your kids be friends. That will be beneficial as the rough times for them come when they are adolescents. They will have a special bond with you that will help you help them navigate through life.

After an outing like that he will be hooked for life. no pun intended.

I just want to say I just got back from the NPAA Annual Meeteing. We had a guest speaker from Carmichael Lynch, which is one of the largest advertising agencies in the country. This individual showed statistics that said the number of anglers in the country is on the decline. We definatly need to get the youth involved in the outdoors. I am going to qoute Tommy Skarlis here. Tommy hit it on the head when he said "if they are spending thier money on fishing they're not buying drugs". I couldn't agree more, spending time on the water or on the ice with the youth of this country will build strong family ties and values.

Way cool.
Those bluegills weren't the only thing hooked that day.
What a great feeling to pass it on.

Nice, Rich! Those gills will do it every time! Kids and fish. Nothing creates a wider smile, or more pride form mom and dad.

Rich .Great pics. Just what ever you do, Dont let him catch a walleye. I will turn him into a nut like us!!!!! It brings back fishing with my dad when he was here. I think when I get home it will be time to get out some old pictures of us fishing. I can remember every one of them.

That's extremely cool, sir. My sons are both grown, both married, and both still my fishing buddies. You have LOTS of great times to look forward to!
