Location: upper michigan | I have been thinking some about turnament dates expecially after fishing the MWC at Winnebago last year. I spent a couple easy days on the water prefishing for this event. it was the first time i ever fished Winnebago. But come saturday morning when we hit our fishing spot it was cramed full of locals who where not very happy to see us and they made this known buy doing there best to make sure we didnt catch any fish. I was thinking that maybe moveing major tournament dates to weekdays would help eleminate some of this strain between tournament and non tournament anglers. Most guys take a few weekdays away from work anyhow to fish these events so hold them on mondays and tuesdays. We would still be prefishing with the locals but without the added presure of competion to deal with. |

Location: Waukesha Wisconsin | Most tournaments are for the weekend warriors. Your suggestion is a good one but requires more vacation days
If you get into the PWT and/or FLW you will get your wish.

Location: upper michigan | I am pretty much a weekend warior myself. I useually take 2 days to prefish plus the weekend for the tournament either way i am takeing 2 days off work. I know this would not be good for everyone but alot of these tournaments are getting quite large and some of the non tournament anglers would probably be more apt to accept us tournament guys if we didnt have to fish a tournament among guys out trying to have a good time. |

I understand that you'd be prefishing Saturday, Sunday and Monday with tournament on Tuesday. This way you still have the 2 vacation days with the tournament on Tuesday. Wouldn't you still have some conflicts while prefishing? Or would you just give up known good spots and search for others while prefishing?
In your scenario, this was the first time that you fished Bago so I assume that you had no idea that these spots were local hot spots. Is this correct? You had no idea that there would be other boats in the area? You were surprised that the locals were trying to protect their spot?
I HATE confrontation! I would probably go to plan "B" and give them their space. Chances are high that those fish were getting beat up anyways.
You have a valid point however. We do need to come up with more ideas on how we can avoid these situations. Tournament anglers end up getting a black eye in these situations in though we have just as much of a right to be there. I hate it when it becomes "us against them" situations.

Location: upper michigan | My thinking is if we are just prefishing among them that we would not be butting heads like on tournament day. It would be alot easier to prefish on a weekend when a tournament is not on the line. Then we fish a tournament during the week when there are less people on the water. It opens up more good fishing areas for the tournament, doesnt encourage confrentation between guys trying to fish a tournament and guys looking for a relaxing day on the water. As a tournament fisherman i do not want to cause confrentation or be a victim of it. |

Location: Waukesha Wisconsin | I think your idea has some merit.
My only concern would be the fact that fishing on a monday is usually poor because the fish have been beat up from the weekend. But I guess we all could deal with it. |
