Location: Wind lake, Wi | The launch at the mouth is open , you might have to break a little ice on the way up. There are alot of fish up near the dam, don't ba afraid of casting cranks right now either. I did this last year as we broke the ice all the way up to the dam and had a 92 fish day for three guys, some bigger (22-26") came from casting cranks at the shallow side of the drop off. Most fish came off 3/8 hair jigs w/ minnows in the deeper hole. Fising the edge of the ice was very produtive. We also caught a few fish on the way up at the railroad bridge and two at the pilings under the high rise bridge right by the launch. See pic below.
The Wisc. river has been giving up many fish for the past 2-3 weeks. Still many small ones but you'll have to pick through them to get some eaters. No need to get there early, these fish tend not to bite untill the water warms a few degrees. Orange jigs and blade baits are my choice. Then towards evening try up shallow with some jigs and 3"gulp with a minnow. The "cable" area is still one of the good areas to try, but others are the pilings, hawks beak and across the river from rivers edge landing.
