Location: Manitowoc, WI | I'm hoping some of our good friends can relate some sturgeon spearing stories here from this year. Based on the numbers, it looks as if the water is cloudy and the spearing is slow.
Tell us what it looks like out there and, if you got a sturgeon, post the pictures here. Also, let us know if you're seeing alot of baitfish and walleyes down there too. |

Location: Darboy USA | Well no luck for me, missed my one chance on Saturday at a 50"-55" fish. Didn't get a good shot at it, but still probably should have connected. We were on Poygan about 1.5 miles off Indian Point. Lots of eyes out there, and big ones! We saw about 10 or 12 and the smallest looked to be 18". Many in the 22"-24" range and one whopper that was only 2 ft under the ice that probably was 7# and about 28" long.
Dad got a nice 58" 69# fish at 12:18 on Saturday to help us keep the skunk off. Only 2 fish seen out of the 5 shacks we had out there. Kind of disappointing to say the least. Wish I would have taken Bago for a tag!! |

| We were up on Poygan also, with negative results Last week we sat with the cameras, and counted a number of Sturgeon in the area.6 shacks and not 1 sighting.Lots of Gar fish, came into the hole, some Northern, and eyes, to keep us from getting to bored at least. We have one tag for Bago,so we relocated my shack,on Saturday.Saw one nice one, about 55 to 60 inches at 10:20 Sunday morning, amatuer at the spear,oh well,we all have to start sometime, wish it had been my tag,and throw,it came in perfectly at 11:00,nice and slow(what a puppy shot) Thought it would be a blood bath 6-hour season on Poygan,so chose that tag instead.I'll have to wait for Friday when my buddy is of work to go again, this time for revenge! |

Location: Darboy USA | Bruch said the fish are small because the shad population is declining so there is less for them to eat, the zebra mussles are hurting the amount of lake fly larvae which the sturgeon used to eat alot of, and the zebra mussles are being eaten by the sturgeon, but the amount of protein and fat they can get out of them is limited. There just isn't any good feed out there right now.
Apparantly there were years like this a few times in the past 30 years or so and Bruch said that mother nature will take it's course and the fish will find other stuff to eat or other populations will increase again and they will fatten up again in the next few years.
He had an article basically saying this in the P/C I think. If you search the web you will find it I'm sure. |

Location: Menasha, WI | I saw that today's harvest put the adult female total over the 80% trigger. Season closes tomorrow at 12:30. All fish must be registered by 1:30. |

| <p>yep she's just about got a fork stuck in er. sorta wondering if the dnr is going to look at this years season and how long it went and then decide to wait another year to see how the season lasts and then there will end up being a big shad die off again and they will all get stabbed in one day </p> |

| Jerry - You'll notice Lunatik and I have had nothing to say because WE HAVE NOTHING to say! Sturgeon Spearing pretty much sucked!! We only have one way to go and that is up hill from here. This will not happen again, we hope. Good Luck to all next year. |

Location: Neenah, WI | The season is ending on a high note for us. My wife Ginny got a 58" 35lb. female yesterday. It was her first ever sturgeon. The fish was off to the side and she made a great shot at a tough angle. |
