Question 74 - One Line Motor Trolling
The current positioning regulation has many flaws and should be replaced. The State of Wisconsin allows motor trolling in designated areas to increase fishing interest and tourism, It is recommended that one line per person, without the aid of down riggers or planer boards, be instituted, plus one additional line for casting in those waters not currently covered. This will insure better uniformity and law enforcement throughout the state of Wisconsin.
74. Do you favor motor trolling with one line as described in the above description
Now is this to allow one line trolling, where one can not now troll....
Or is it to make 1 line all you can troll and no planers.
I read it as to allow trolling up north with one line.
But please read it and make your own call, and get out to the hearings a express your thoughts, buy voting. |

Location: Omro,Wi. | I saw this yesterday on WC.I am taking it that the waters without trolling open will be able to use 1 rod for trolling if passed.Sure hope so,or I'll be selling lots of cranks cheap! |

| I would love to see one rod trolling allowed on the Wolf River under those guidelines. Interesting what waters are being considered |

Location: Rhinelander | The waters under consideration are the lakes and rivers in the North that are currently 'no motor trolling' waters. This proposal isn't designed to effect any waters already allowing trolling as we now know it.
A very large portion of the debate is in the Muskie community. Many like to 'drag a sucker' in the fall while casting, which if one is using the electric for positioning and pulls the sucker forward is a 'grey area' violation. This new idea would unblur that line, and allow the practice. |

| Sworall is correct, this rule applies only on lakes where trolling is not currently allowed. Wed night, I talked to the gentleman who was responsible for writing this rule and he confirmed the intent. |

Location: Rhinelander | I personally hope this passes. I would love to drag a spinner rig for 'eyes on some of those lakes. When backtrolling ws legal for a time, I did very well pulling slip rigs. Now that Zach has taught me something about spinner rigs, that would be fun. |

Location: Manitowoc, WI | Gentlemen,
I understand what the intent is, but I've seen in other instances where a rule was meant to be used one way and was implemented and used in another. As long as the rule in question is worded correctly, I do not have a problem. However, if it's left in the vague state I am seeing now, I would be vehemently against it.
Whoever wrote this needs to make it clear to all......not left up to the speculation state it's in now. |

Location: Milw, WI | I remember back trolling....loved it.
And granted dragging that extra sucker would be cool.
Heck dragging any extra bait would be cool.
I for one hope it goes as intented, but the wording is not clear.
It needs to be written in a clear straight forward manner.
Needs to state....
To allow one line/one lure or bait per-person trolling (with out on/in line planer or downriggers)while under motor power in a forward motion, where no trolling is allowed currently, with 1 line per-person used for casting while boat is
in motion.
Yes or No.
How hard was that?

| Been jig fishing, and casting cranks since I was 10, just tried some trolling in Upper MI, and Canada last year.
Didn't have too much luck due to lack of knowladge...
picked up plenty of live bait spinners, and snap weights, even orderd two trolling rods with line counters.
would love to learn the art, any help, or toutoring would be appreciated...

| "The State of Wisconsin allows motor trolling in designated areas to increase fishing interest and tourism."
I didn't know we were trying to keep fishing interest and tourisim in check up North! I always was told trolling was bad for the fishes, that it was too easy. Now, they come out and say trolling is not allowed up north, because fishing interest and tourism would run rampant up there if left unchecked.
Just make all the waters in the state the same. 3 lines per person. simple. done. no grey areas. I have to admit, it is a step in the right direction. I'm just afraid that they'll go the other way on the lakes that already allow trolling, and make them single line lakes. yikes. |

| This is something that needs to be passed for the musky and walleye community for sure. The arguement brings unneccesary strain to a wonderful sport on the subject of suckers. The row trolling rule is fine but the thought of my grandfather getting to spend more time on the water because northern Wisconsin would offer a technique that would be physically less straining to him brings joy to me. Sure, I can row for hours at my tender young age but if I make it to a great old age it sure would be nice to tool around the lake with a trolling motor and a sucker rather than spending my last days couped in a nursing home. This is a wonderful idea that would do nothing but bring more interest to the sport. I hope you all support this law and make it to your hearings. |

Location: Milw, WI | We can fish/troll with 3 lines per-person.(Wisconsin)
But trolling is only allowed on certain bodys of water.
We are hoping this opens those no trolling lakes up.
Not end up cutting us down to 1 line else where, in the future.
I used to spend all my time back trolling.
We have to worry that by voting this in, we are not stabbing our selves in
the back........

in Ontario where I fish, we're only allowed 1 line per angler but i'm native so I can have as many lines as I want lol. but it's fun when you get a bunch of friends in the boat and go around trolling with four rods catching bunches of fish |
