Fished the dam on 8 yesterday. things were pretty slow, only a couple boats were producing, jigging seemed to be about the least effective approach. One guy nailed one right next to me that had to be almost 12 lbs. But that was one of the eight or nine keepers I saw out of 30 boats during the day. I am from N. Mn and having a tough time adjusting to the river game!!

i feel that the fish start a downward migration to there spawning grounds. so when the bite seems like it is slowing that the adult fish are heading to do thier thing. and they still can be caught, you just hafta go looking for them.

I tend to agree with Larry. Now that the water is warming and rising fast, these fish will be moving from wintering spots to spawning grounds and may prove to be a bit evasive over the next few weeks. If you can find groups of fish in spawning type areas with rock, on sand flats, and/or spots near to key vegetation species, you can have some good action. If I had to rank all of the dam locations pool 8 wouldnt be at the top of my list in terms of spring walleye fishing. Take a look at your map and look for some of these types of areas. Also if you are from northern mn you might want to consider some of the other dam locations. Pools 4(redwing), 5(alma), or 7(trempealeau) for example.

Thanks guys, I live in Iowa now so 8 and 9 have been my targets. This is a lot different than what I am used to on the lakes. Any tips are greatly appreciated.
