Not trying to be a smart A$$ here, but maybe saving you some grief. But with the new laws concerning captains licenses on many new Inland Lakes, and especially if the tourney is on a Great Lake, any person collecting a fee for a (on the water) service must be a certified, licensed captain with proper safety equipment, properly rigged boat and have liability insurance.
Not sure about rather this would apply, if this person you hire for the day would legally become part of your regular employed staff. That may be the "Gray Area" that would legally allow such a thing.
I'm sure your tourney covers the liability, but the other may be a overlooked glitch you may want to check into, just in case inforced by the Coast Guard or your states DNR. I was told years ago by a CG officer, when I got my captains license at the Toledo Ohio CG headquarters, that even accepting money for gas constitutes a (service for pay) on the water. You and I both would call this a (chicken **** law) especially concerning taking gas money from your buddies for a days fishing. But if you get a hard A$$ wanting to give you grief, or (God forbid) have an accident with this camera boat, you or your directors could get in some serious trouble.

| Is it $200 and my gas or are you furnishing the gas. If we are making long runs out on the lake then we could burn that up in no time. | |

I don't believe the captain's license would be an issue. | |
