I have to admit; it was awfully nice that the weather held out long enough for the weigh in to be completed. And the brief shower at the end of the stage show was both just a shower and brief.

It was also nice to sit and visit a bit with Sonny Reynolds before his duties took precedent. It has been a while since our paths had crossed. Sonny and Sharon run a tight ship, and it is noticed. There was a good turnout to view the weigh in as well.

As for the days fishing reports, many of the anglers I spoke with told of fish that had either moved, or that didn't want to play. Most reported the eyes were not taking the bait very well and a common theme was fish coming unstuck, or nipping at the offerings. In days prior the fish were all but swallowing the bait, hook, line and sinker as it were.

Crawler harnesses seemed to be the presentation of choice and many of the fish were caught high in the water column. However, with a WWA event and the RCL next week, most anglers were a little tight lipped on exact details. But they all also commented that open water fish are open water fish. I guess that would tell one to read between the lines and research past info.

Actually the only real surprise noted, it seemed of all the FLW tournament anglers out and about for next weeks FLW out of Green Bay, only Rick LaCourse and Julia Davis were in the crowd. At least as far as I saw, that is. Oh and Jack was there too. It was kind of fun to watch Rick rolling around wrestling with Jack between slow points in the weigh in. (Jack is Juls and Rick's Golden Retriever). And as always, Jack was sure the people there were all there for him!

The park was in good shape and well groomed, the stage and seating was awesome and the refreshments and food was awesome! It was real hard to sit in the crowd and not be tempted by the smell of Brats grilled on a grill..... they got me!!

The layout of the weigh in was also well done. The holding tanks were under an awning and a pump, constantly circulating fresh water from the bay, supplied each. The release tanks were much the same. The released fish were shuttled out of the marina and to a point out in the bay for release. And the Menominee Marina is somewhat unique as there is always a current through it, regulated by two large floodgates at the opposite end of the marina mouth.

The way the anglers are staged is also nice. Weigh bags are all adorned with a letter from the alphabet. On Cue anglers with the appropriate letter are asked to come to the holding tanks. Oxygen pumps are available in each tank for anglers to be sure their fish have enough oxygen and remain lively and healthy. A lot of thought and planning went into this system, and it was nice to see.

I hope you all have the chance to attend an FLW League weigh in to see them in action. As well as stop in at other tournament events in Menominee, like the upcoming MWC event in July.

Congrats! Both Schuttes are big time walleye fanatics! Pat helped Max and I out back in 1999 with some info on the area that helped us pull a 28lb + one day bag in the MWC event. Thanks again Pat, and congrats to you both!
