The bite remains good on pool 8. This cold snap and the flash rains this week didnt help (lots of junk) but the walleyes remain active. The slough bite unlike a week ago didnt produce the numbers for me today. But finding the right wingdam today was the key. I covered alot of ground today and definately stunk it up in the sloughs. The afternoon bite was way better for me than in the am.

Willow cats were crucial to have today. They were really striking them hard. Some nice sizes on these fish too. Only one fish today on cranks in the sloughs. There is a little more junk in the water and those pesky cotton wood things are everywhere. So plan accordingly. I will try to get out again this weekend to see if the bite gets better. I think it will.

Willow cat availability in the La Crosse area is very good you can get them just about anywhere now. Heck I swear I even saw a tank outside the drive up at the local Mc Donalds.

However, today stunk. I couldnt get anything going anywhere. Fished quite a few dams and didnt appreciate the North wind. North wind and strong flow equals bad fishing always for me. The flow is staying up higher than I want it to (55,000 cfs) but really none of my spots produced today. Need to find new spots and get away from boat traffic. You can always tell when its a holiday weekend. Some of the folks out there today were well lets just say a little loopy! Only a couple short fish on cats today. But I chose not to fish a spot I found them on yesterday because I already know they are there. Will try to report on 5/30 as well.
