The three B's
But for the grace...

The recent tragedy on Lake Buttes des Morts should give us all pause to reflect on how we mix the three B's - Boats, Booze and the Black-of-night. What happened is terrible for all involved. What makes it worse is that it might have been avoidable. What's scary is that it might have been even more tragic if this boat would have plowed into an innocent family out for an evening boat ride.

I don't mean to hurt anyone's feelings by this post, honest. I just hope we all pause to reflect on the possible ramifications of our actions next time we reach for a cold one while out on the water. I never want this to happen to anyone again. My heart goes out to the families.

Amen Grace.

Being a charter captain I often see, and at times end up babysitting a few clients every summer, that equate fun with Beer and more fun with more Beer. My rule is a 6 pack of beer per person/per 7 hour day. I've cut people off before during the trip who get into their buddies quota of beer, that don't drink. That at times has made me the bad guy on the boat. Tough.... It's my boat, I'm responsible for your welfare, and my license that's on the line if I let things get out of hand and unsafe. I do not allow any kind of beer/booze on my river trips, night trips, or ice fishing trips. And I've had people decline to go with me, because they cannot bring beer or booze along. Hard to believe Huh?
