Happy Independence Day to everyone! I hope your weekend was safe and enjoyable. The weather seemed to cooperate very well the past 4 days. Wind was a little bit of a factor but I seemed to manage ok and came onto land with a little case of sea legs. Water temps were in the mid to high 70’s for the most part. Fishing was decent this past week even though the winds were keeping some guys from getting out. Rocky shorelines and reefs were loaded with fish this past week up until this weekend. We went from having 3 days of a northerly wind and then overnight switching to a straight south wind. It took a little bit of searching with the wind switch but nevertheless seemed to find a few decent fish. Small jigs tipped with crawlers or leaches worked best on the rocks along with slip bobbers floating over the high spots. When the wind calmed a bit on Saturday we hit the mud out of Stockbridge for a little bit of trolling. They were definitely in a tight school. We had 3-4 waypoints and each time we would pass over them we would get a fish. I tried everything I had for cranks but could only catch the fish with live bait on spinners and snap weights. We missed a lot of fish and had one or two break us off but did manage some nice 23-24” eyes along with a bonus 18-19” sauger that was cpr’d. We also spent a little time investigating some small patches of canes on the upper lakes with a little success; nothing huge but some 15-16” fish along with some gills and perch. Usually this time of years the walleyes slow way down which they have a bit but if you work hard enough there are still quite a few to be caught. Be patient and they will come.

We bobbered a few rockpiles over the weekend with moderate success. Biggest was 21". Kept some eaters for a fish fry. Caught a lot of smallies, a Rock Bass and a couple of bonus Perch. Oh, I forgot to mention we also caught about a million Sheephead. The windy type conditions seemed to keep a lot of the nuisance boaters away and that made for some pretty enjoyable times. Never did try the mud.
