Location: Byron, IL | Hi all...kind of in a predicament here. Hopefully someone can help. I currently run a 1998 Lund Pro V SE with a 90 Evinrude. When I purchased it, I asked my dealer if it could handle a kicker motor if I ever decided to put one one. He said it would...
Now, fast forward 6 years and I am finally wanting to put one on. Can it be done? I would like to run a 9.9 HP, but will go down lower if I have to. Would there be enough clearance? Would I have to get a Panther or CMC Lift and would that help the clearance issue (if any)? I plan on mounting one on the port side, since I have my electronics running starboard side...
Any help or advice would be appreciated...

| I have seen several 1660's with kicker motors that were just clamped to the transom, without a Panther or CMC lift. Have your dealer set one on your boat to see what kind of clearance you will have. I frequently see a 1660 while driving to work (he's going fishing and I get to go to work) with a 90 Johnson and a 9.9 Honda, looks like he has plenty of room. The 9.9 is the standard kicker motor, but you can use a smaller motor and save $$ in the process. Merc, Honda and Yamaha all make 8 hp models. You could even go to a 5 hp Honda, this is a single cylinder and it doesn't run as smooth as the 8 an 9.9 which are twin cylinder motors. Merc, Honda and Yamaha also make kickers with trim and tilt units, these can get pretty expensive and heavy too. If you have clearance problems consider a smaller 5 or 6 horse model, you don't need the power as your kicker very seldom runs much above idle speed. Good luck |

Location: NW Illinois | If I may make a recommendation, I would strongly look at the Yamaha T-8. A little more money than a 9.9 four stroke, but I sure wish I had gone with the T-8. Best kicker motor made, even hear that from die hard Merc and Evinrude guys. My buddy has one, and I am absolutely convinced it has no close competition! |

| Check out the new Merc 9.9 Pro Kicker, lightweight with power tilt and locking straps for motoring with the big motor. Most dealers now have them in stock.

| Buy the Yamaha T8!!!!!! Mercury can't even come close to this kicker. No panther or lift required and they run like a dream!!! |

| WalleyeJack must not have seen the new Merc ProKicker.
Lighter, more HP, quieter, and smoother than a T8. Comes with power tilt. And, as usual, it has a better prop than the Yamaha.
T8 is a good kicker, but it's not the only one in the game anymore. |

The Pro kicker has more HP because its a 9.9, not an 8 - not that HP should matter as either one would be WAY more than strong enough to push most walleye boats.
I can't comment on which one is quieter or smoother because I haven't used a Mercury ProKicker yet, but I am looking forward to being in the boat with one. I do know the T8's are quiet engines.... hopefully they pushed Merc to make a product just as good or better.
What's the problem with being honest about where these products are made? |

| No problem that the powerhead is a joint venture between Merc and Tohatsu. But to imply that this is totally a Tohatsu motor, and Merc is simply putting it's name on it shows Guest's ignorance.
The T8 is 102 lbs, without the power tilt, which is an option. Power tilt adds more than 6 lbs.
I've been in boats with both. The T8 is a good kicker. I've not bashed them, ever. However, the new Merc ProKicker is, IMHO, better for the reasons I stated. |

Location: Byron, IL | Thanks for the suggestions so far guys...Still not have made a decision. I am actually thinking of lower horse power then a 9.9 at this point. 6hp was recommended elsewhere...Weight will be an issue of sorts...Keep in mind the size of my rig... |

| Tom,
if not mistaken, I think your boat is pretty wide, maybe 88", if not 90-92". My Lund 1700 is 92 wide, and doesn't lean at all with a 9.9. A 6 hp should be OK, too. |

Just bought a 07 Lund 1750 and am looking at the 9.9 pro kicker. I am confused how the remote works. If you have the power tilt which I believe is std. with the ELPT model, why do you need the brkt. kit to the main OB. The dealer tells me that leg on the main OB will be down when the kicker is in use. Please clarify

| Not sure what your dealer is saying. ELPT is a tiller. If you want to steer from the console, you will need to have a removeable steering connection to the main motor. Here is a link to how I did mine, with P/N's. This will work on either Starboard or Port side.

| Thanks for the info and pic's. Would like to see your set up but we are over 500 miles apart. I'm in Mindemoya Ont.
I have heard lots about the prokicker and that's the one I want. Looks like the pictures show a tiller model and utilize a tie to the main OB tc function like a remote. Saying that I should ask the question, why wasn't this set up equipped with the remote model.
Oh, should ask what shaft length you went with on your Pro V. They recommended 20 in. at this end.

| I have the Long Shaft(20") on my Tuffy 1890. That is a 25" transom. Pretty sure my Lund Angle(20") had the Long Shaft, too. I believe that is the one you want.
Yes, it is a tiller model, and I have it because sometimes, I want to backtroll, or run it from the back to allow me to have better control on tight contours. The remote doesn't allow for this, and I don't like the controls box up front. I prefer to have the removeable tiebar, and in conjunction with a TrollMaster, I get much better speed control.
