| My boss has an electric motor powered pontoon boat with a Guest 2620 charger. It has 2 sets of batteries, one set for the motor, one set for all other electrical needs. He has no power available at lakeside, which is about 400 feet from the residence. Options he is looking at: run 400' of extension cord from house to charger, or use a portable generator to power the charger. What is his best option? Would running 400' of extension cord, harm the charging unit due to voltage/amp drop over that distance?
If he goes with the generator, any problems foreseen with that?
Anyone have any idea of the cost to run underground power that diatance, NE Illinois area?

Location: Fremont Wi | Running off extension cords would work as long as they are 10 gauge wire or better. To put the cable in the ground would be the better way to go again at least 10 gauge wire which will give you about a 20 amp service by the boat. I'm not sure about the cost of the wire but I would think at least $1 a foot just for the cable. I hope this helps and if you have any more questions just ask. | |
