| Ok guys, I need some help here, as I am not a trout fisherman. While pre-fishing for the MWC on Green Bay last week, I caught fish that was huge. I thought that is was a Rainbow but was not positive. I knew it wasn't a lake trout. I have since verified the pictures and it was a Rainbow. So anyhow, it filled my large or extra large Beckman Net, it made my 30" Judge Ruler look small. I am guessing that the fish was over 36" long. Because it was so big, I put it on my7 digital scale, and it registered 22 LBS. Even if my scale was wrong by a pound this is a big fish. I did some checking last night and see that the WI record Rainbow is 27 LBS. Several of my buddies gave me greif telling me that I should have kept the fish, I did not, she is still swimming. My question is, was this fish a trophy woth getting a replica of, or are that size Rainbow common on the Bay? For you guys that fish trout, is it possible that a 36" plus would go 22 LBS. It had a huge belly on it. | |

| At 22 #'s, chances are more likely that it was a King salmon. I landed a 10.5 # King the weekend before the MWC. At any rate you should of kept it....they taste good. | |

Location: Port Washington, wisconsin | I have seen alot of rainbows go thru our smokehouse here in port washington, and I would say it probably was a salmon also. Rainbows are typically long and skinny. The large belly you describe would be common on the chinook salmon. A rainbow that size would have probabaly escaped the bait it had choosen to eat. They are nasty fighters. | |
