Location: Otterlake MI | i have a question what is the best wat to tie the end hook on to the spinner i run two hooks and snel the first one and was sneling the second but found that the last hook is coming undone just by me pulling on it was wondering if was the amount of raps (most times 5) or the line wich i prefer vanish or do i need to tie a different not all together i'm just starting to get in to tieing my own harreness as i was buying them but found i can tie more for about the same price i was paying for the pretied ones also was wondering what size hooks and a good brand to use i got eagle claw style 42 size 4 |

Location: upper michigan | If you are tieing a proper snell not it should not come on done when pulled on. I tie all my own as well. Location: Westland, Mich. | the snell knot in the previous post is the best one to use as all the wraps protect the standing line. the best way to tie it is using the red quick tie tool. a lot of people like to say you don't need any tools to snell a hook but, if you want the best knot and tie it quick and correct get the tool. |

Location: Chilton, WI | I usually just tie a palomer knot on the back hook because I run a treble hook on the back most of the time. I also use the palomer knot for tying single hooks in the back too. The snell knot would most likely be the correct knot to use though. The benefit to using a snell knot is it keeps your hook in the correct position. When I snell the front hook I usually wrap the hook 8-9 times. The size of hooks I use are either 2 or 4, depending on the size of the fish I am targeting. A 4 will do most of the time but on big bodys of water with big fish such as Erie or Green Bay I would go with a 2. My favorite brands of hooks are Owner, Mustad and Gamakatsu. | I would agree with Scrapper on hook brand. Owner are very sharp. Gama is always a good bet also. Don't skimp on cheap hooks. Trolling harnesses can be a finesse situation quite often and fish like to pull the board back and not get hooked. A sharp hook is the best defense. |

Location: Manitowoc, WI | I tie a snell knot for all my hooks on spinners. I use 12 wraps per hook and I've yet to have one unravel on me. I did notice some problems with P-Line Fluorocarbon, as it is very smooth and tends to slip a bit, so I put that line in my "soon to be sold" bin. |

The only other use I have for it is on the Great Lakes in the fall when I pull leadcore. I use it as leader material, tied with a Palomar knot to a swivel or snap so it won't slip. |

As mentioned above, if your snells are pulling through even with 5 raps, something is dead wrong. As you know between all the different rigs I've tied through the years in my own baitshop, plus the ones I personally use and sell, I've become an old hand at snelling. And I've used just about evey kind of straight or turned eye hook made at some point. And I use 7 raps with mono and usually 5 with coated wire. You may not be leaving the "TAG" end long enough, going back through the hooks head on the wrong side, not making sure the line is tight when you begin, or not holding it down tight enough as you rap it. This would allow slack in the rap and make your snell come un-tied. I'd know right away what the deal was if I could see one of your ties.
