Tournament Director Bill Brosnahan is sad to report the sudden death of Bob Schmerbach. Bob (age 64) died at home of an apparent heart attack Saturday evening. Bob was a great husband, father, and friend. He will be missed by all who knew him. We will keep Bob's family in our thoughts and prayers.

Wake and funeral arrangements will be announced on this and the Walleye Anglers Trail web site as soon as they become available.

Heard about this earlier today, thanks for posting. Bob was a great and genuine man that did so much for walleye fishing on the Mississippi River, and above all else, was highly respected by all who knew him. We are all just shocked and speechless and at a complete loss for words. There are many of us who will be making the trip down once arragements are finalized so please keep us posted.

Bob was a very personable guy... I doubt that few will be missed more than him. He and Harry Miller were the face and the heart of the WAT. Bob made me feel welcome from the very first moment that I showed up at the first tournament. He will be missed by many fishermen all across the midwest.

Bob was one of the kindest gentlemen I've came across in my tournament times. The man would do anything to help ya that he could possibly do . HG is absolutley correct in saying that He and Harold Miller were the faces of the WAT. They started the trail and I was honored when we got to start fishing against them. Bob will surely be missed by all WAT fishermen from the past and present. His family is on our prayers tonight.

What a bad deal losing two top shelf tournament personalities in a couple weeks. Bob will be missed.

Bob was one of my closest friends. He gave me many words of encouragement when I started tournament fishing. One thing he has said that I will always remember, " You have to learn how to lose to learn how to win." He was one of the most kindest men anyone will meet. I will sure miss him. To his wife,Betty and lifelong friend Harry Miller, there will not be a dry eye for all that knew him. Rest in peace my friend.
