| Gas is at $3.00/gal today and projected to rise, possibly to $3.50 by the weekend. There is blunt talk of gas rationing in the news. I've seen stations that have run out already. Out of respect for the folks affected by Katrina and in light of the economic situation, does anyone else think FLW should cancel or postpone the Walleye League Finals for next week?
How many people planning on going do you think will cancel out?
Thoughts? |

| I'd say it goes off as planned. Yes, the storm damage down there is horriffic, but the anglers who qualified should have their time on the water and the chance to take the top spot, all factors considered. |

| Not sure why they would cancel because of Katrina. Out of respect for those affected by Katrina? Not sure why that is relavent. I've not heard of any plans to cancel Major League Baseball, or the NFL season, or NASCAR. Any ONE of those will use thousands times of more fuel than the FLW event.
And I'm not sure what you mean by the economic situation. Sure, gas may be up over $3.00/gal. It sure doesn't seem to affect how much most people are driving. If I was in the FLW League, I'd still go.
Bottom line is the show should go on. |

| Bring lots of money guys:
NEW YORK (CNN/Money) - Consumers can expect retail gas prices to rise to $4 a gallon soon but whether they stay there depends on the long-term damage to oil facilities from Hurricane Katrina, oil and gas analysts said Wednesday.
"There's no question gas will hit $4 a gallon," Ben Brockwell, director of pricing at the Oil Price Information Service, said. "The question is how high will it go and how long will it last?"
OPIS tracks wholesale and retail oil prices and provides pricing information for AAA's daily reports on fuel prices.
Brockwell said with gasoline prices now exceeding $3 a gallon before even reaching the wholesale level, it "doesn't take a genius" to expect retail prices to hit $4 a gallon soon.
"Consumers haven't seen the worst of it yet," Brockwell said.

| I do not think it is in anybodies interest to have the FLW to pull the carpet out from under the feet of those who have spent an entire season fishing just to get to this tourney. While it IS only fishing, who is to decide that it is not of any significant meaning to anyone else? We are all going to be facing harder times as a result of this great trageady, and the chance to fish this one tourney may just be the last fun indulgance some people will have for some time because of financial constrants created by this disaster. I for one will not be competing at the MTT Championship on LOTW because of the fuel costs, and it hurts me to make that decision, but I have to draw the line, and concentrate on other things now. I'm sure as time goes, we all will be making sacrafices in some way as a result of this storm. |

Location: Green Bay, WI | I just got a call from the FLW and was asked if I wanted to fish it on the boater side. I did poorly in two of the events and don't have any vacation left, so I said no.
I think what is happening is the boaters that have a lot of travel, probably the Michigan boaters, are deciding that the price of gas is too high for this tournament. |

People may be like me and unable to get out of work.
I had been prefishing 4 days already, racked up 4 nights of motel costs and associated gas bills before I was told that my employer would not release me to attend.
People have many reasons why they may not be able to go. happens every year. |

| That sucks, Dennis. Was looking forward to riding in your new 621 next year! Gotta be a heart breaker for you not to there. You want I should pay your boss a little visit? Me and Vinny the Mauler? Fagetaboutit!
Hope to see you at LBDN next weekend. If I come up with a partner, I'll be there.
BeFishin, I could have fished both the League Finals, and the Championship last year, as a boater or co-angler. My choice. This is nothing new when they want to fill the field.

Location: Green Bay, WI | Dennis - that is bad news. Your job does have its positives and negatives, the no vacation policy is one of negatives. You could always get sick?
BTW, how was the prefishing?
Did you have a pattern put together? |

Location: Waukesha Wisconsin | Guys,
Thanks for the condolences and support. Life goes on, and so do I.
Two tournaments left for the season now. The MWS will be having their final tournament in the Bay de Noc area this Sunday and then their championship in October (yes, I plan on making that one).
This is and has been a great tournament season for me. One that I will never forget. I’m proud of my accomplishments and not making it to one tournament because of work constraints will not tarnish the memories.
Back to the original thread…….
I think there is merit to your questions about people not going because of gas. The FLW has been calling boaters way down the list. I had a friend call me to tell me he made it and he only did two tournaments. I hope they get a full field. Good luck to any WF people doing it, if you need any help or insight pm me, I was on to a pattern or two
Butch,
Are you talking about quitting work or quitting tournaments? I think you know me well enough to know what choice I would make if I had too.
