| Hey John, I look forward to taking your money....What card games do you know?
Looks like a pretty decent schedule. See ya later |
|
| |
|
| I think I'm gonna need a part time job to pay for gas and then to drive all over the state and drive all over the water with my boat that gets 3 miles to the gallon for three or four days before the tournament all to get a great finish of 15th place and win 1000 dollars. Its getting harder to justify on participating unless its a local tournament. Not complaining just frustrated!!!!!!! |

| I agree, What the Flock.
But at the same time, rising costs are impacting just about everything we do, not just gas. Chances are you'll find a way to spend your money either way.
Now, if you're fishing competition to solely make money, I'd recommend trying slots or cards....the percentages are better based on the odds.
Good Luck |

| Ooooo......that's a loaded question with a LOT of different answers.
I'd recommend that you try a "smaller" run circuit. Perhaps the GNWC or MWS or WWA. There are quite a few "good sticks" that fish those circuts from time to time and the "lessons" are cheaper. You can learn an aweful lot from those circuits as well that'll help prepare you for the MWC or FLW or PWT which ever route you intend to go.
Secondly, finding a partner is critical, finding a partner that you really can gel with and spend a lot of time with, becasue you will.
Good luck with your search and your decision. |

Location: Manitowoc, WI | Thanks Jayman. I believe I will take your advice and start out a little lower key. That's one of my faults. I like to jump right in and give it a try. I think I'll be more cautious on this one. Thanks again. |

|
| I KNOW I KNOW JAYMAN, I'LL JUST SPEND MY MONEY SOME OTHER WAY IF I DONT FISH TOURNAMENTS (WHICH I HIGHLY DOUBT IF I WOULD QUIT) IT JUST SUCKS THAT THE COSTS OF EVERYTHING ARE INCREASING AND WINNINGS ARE GETTING HARDER TO COVER COSTS, LET ALONE EQUIPMENT UPKEEP. ON THE BRIGHTER SIDE IT ALSO IS A VACATION FOR SOME AND THERE ARE A LOT OF GOOD TIMES TO BE HAD AT THESE EVENTS. SO I QUESS I WILL HAVE TO CONVINCE MY WIFE THAT I'M GOING ON A STRESS RELIEVING GETAWAY FROM WORK. SO I'LL QUITE WHINING NOW AND GET BACK TO FISHING. GOOD LUCK TO ALL IN FUTURE TOURNEYS...... |

Location: Chicago IL. | Jayman, I only know how to play rummy and war. HEHEHE. Looking foward to haveing fun next year with you guys.
Horshak, I fished 3 trails for 3 years and next year i'm doing 2. Iwt and MWC .Weekend tourneys are alot of fun and if you pay attention you will learn a ton. Just remember to go and have fun and dont get caught up in stress. My good friend Bob who just passed away gave me advice when I started and I live by it today," You have to learn how to lose ,to learn how to win" . If you take 100 boats only 20 will get any money!!! Just remember, your not going to get rich fishing tourneys. |

Location: Berlin | I 100% agree Jerry. I have a feeling the numbers for next year will be down quite a bit and they might reconsider bringing them back. If it ever does come back to bago I hope they move the date to May or even the weekend before the Merc. Can you imagine how fast that tournament would fill? Green Bay could then be moved up also putting that tournament during a phenominal bite. They are trying to get more participation in the challenge but a lot of the guys that fished it last year are from around here. Now that bago is out I bet they are also. Unless we have a really good finish at Spring Valley, that will be the only event Mark and I will be doing. |

Location: Manitowoc, WI | Thanks for the advice John. If learning how to lose helps your chances of winning, than I should fair pretty well next year. LOL! Still haven't decided which circuit to fish yet. Waiting for the 06 schedules to come out. I am also originally from Illinois. I was born in Harvey in the South Suburbs. Small world huh? |

Location: Rockford MN | Yes it would be nice if every event was in my backyard also, seems like the past few years I have a 6 hour drive to fish! This is why every year less and less MN teams are fishing. You guys that fish Bago have events every week, so why would you want to fish anything else? I for one would'nt fish the MWC again if they made the tour into a same location every year tour. I think they should be going to new waters every year, or atleast every two years. There's some great water out there they have'nt fished yet, trouble is they can't get the guys to travel anywhere. Evereyone wants to fish in there back yard or they don't want to play! By the way gas prices here are down to $2.64 in less than 2 weeks after reaching $3.19. Our gas comes out of Canada and should not have been impacted as much from the storms down south! However the panic button was pushed and we suffered the wrath of the media hype " NO FUEL FOR YOU" 1 year! lol |

Location: Combined Locks, WI | I fished the MWC for the first time this year. I do agree that they should try to go to new venus every year. The only issue I have with everyone complaining about where the circuit goes is it is always winnebago you complian about. Look back and you will see that the MWC hasn't gone to winnebago every year. The have gone to Spring Valley every year for a long time, so why no complianing about that?

Location: Rockford MN | Name another site that they could go in March and I'd be interested! Name a place that they could go in June, any place in the country for a good bite! Winnebago is a BEAT waters when the MWC goes there! 26lbs to win this year, you can go anywhere and get that kind of weight! Plus catch better fish than are weighed at Bago. People complain about being the 7th event in a row on a lake that has not been putting up goods weight at that time of year/ there are other times to go there. |

Location: Berlin | I think the negative responses about Bago are because of the timing of the last two years tourneys. There is never a GREAT bite going on at that time of year compared to early May or early June. I would not want to come back either if I was not from here. The truth of the matter is Spring Valley opens their arms for the MWC and the tournament usually fills instantly so of course they keep going back. Winnebago will always fill. Look at it this way, The Merc and Otter Street are 300 boat tournaments and fill up in a couple days so filling a mere 220 boat field is a no brainer. Maybe there was other circumstances that affected there decision but I am still baffled why it did not come back. I am not trying to cry like a little girl....but....why...I live right...here....I need a tissue:( |

Location: Combined Locks, WI | Gordy, I totally understand what you are saying, but who says every year we need to start in March. I like variety, it wouldn't be all that bad to start in April once. Like I said this was my first year fishing the MWC and it was my first time to Spring Valley. I didn't fair well on tourney day but I enjoyed the fishery and will definatly go back. I also understand that winnebago gets beat up and I feel something needs to be done about that. Winnebago is my home water and if anyone thinks she is a easy place to fish, even for a local they are mistaken. I also understand it is difficult for many of the circuits to get events in Minnesota due to the lotery they have. I personally would love to fish an event there but if it is a logistics nightmare, well then lets keep going to places that fill, even it it means going to winnebago or spring valley every year. There are so many options out there, I think people just need to be open to ideas and different places. Someone will always have to travel and every venue will have the locals, who will be tough to beat. You can't please everyone, and complianing about it is just wasted energy that could be focused to something more positive. |

Location: Rockford MN | Boy I don't know what to say. I guess I would would fish if 2 of the 3 events were 50 miles from my house also. Just wait to see how many of those guys fish this year. I won't be one of them! I would rather fish GOOD waters at good times. |

| Gordy,
Your earlier post doesn't make sense. You say name a place you could go in June and have a good bite. Then you say you can go anywhere and catch 26 pounds plus better fish than at winnebago. So which is it? Can we go anywhere or are there no good bites in June. What do you mean by better fish? Winnebago fish aren't exactly bad, there are many fish in the 18-24" which are good enough for competition. Does always catching big fish make for a better event? Whether you are fishing smaller fish or big fish you still need the most weight over two days to win. |

name a place they could catch fish in June, any place in the country! Where in the midwest is there not a good bite in June? Bago because it's BEAT to death by the time the MWC goes there. Like I said before, its a nice lake BUT they might want to try a different time of year! |

Location: Chicago IL. | I think spring valley is a staple place for the mwc. But the miss river is on fire in march. Look at the weights and fish caught last march in the wat. I for one would love to see the mwc hit the miss river in march. It would keep alot of teams in it if you had a bad 1st day for weights. |

Location: Rockford MN | They do it because it's the 1st big event of the tour year and it fills in a day. They used to hold an event on the Miss. river in April but you can never tell what the spring will bring. They have closed the Miss. a few times at that time of year because of high waters and all the timber coming down. You just never know about the Miss. that time of year, can be awesome and can be shut down. I would'nt mind a early season stop on the Miss... it's a great place to catch monsters in the spring! I think it just scares them that they don't have a back-up plan if things were to go bad! |

Location: Chicago IL. | Trust me,the IL is no better in the spring,if not worst. |
|
| |
|
| The IL rises faster, but also falls faster, it's flood conditions are rarely as extended as a similar high water scenario would be on the Upper Mississippi. That being said, fish on the Mississippi are more catchable during high water that fish on the Illinois. |
