Anybody ever figure out where the walleyes go when a lake turns over?
I never have. Some of our reservoirs and lakes are turning over now...and as usual, I don't have a clue.
Managed to get a couple on cranks yesterday, trolled at the 20-24' depth...but, those two walleyes may have been confused like me?
Any tips or ideas? Thanks in advance | |

I'm convinced that turn overs cause many varied and often negative reactions from walleye, given the varied environments they live in. Yet I believe that walleyes living their whole lives in deeper lakes and other bodies of waters are more receptive (in essence) and easier to pattern (when found) than the ones living in shallower rivers and Bays. Yet it's been my experience that the ones living in rivers are less effected because of the mixing effect of the waters and for shorter duration's when cold or pressure fronts come through. A big part of My thoughts and theories about this, are drawn from the fantastic bite that takes place on Lake Erie in October/November during the turn over. And transversely, the almost dead sea that Saginaw Bay becomes around mid September, until the whole Bay stratifies from top to bottom. This might not be a fair assessment, considering Lake Erie has 60+ million walleyes swimming around in massive schools, and who's competitive and feeding nature has to be a lot different because of it.

In small northern lakes that set up thermoclines in the summer.
During the day,some of the walleyes will move to the deepest hole in the lake for a few weeks.
It has turned over and they can now live down there.
Chubs , suckers, and mud minniows are the treats to tempt them with.
You need a no stretch line to detect the takes and set the hooks that deep.
You still have to find the right holes, and lakes , you will not see them on the locator unless the are hot.
They will be belly in the mud.
Then there are the other fall walleye magnets to fish.
But I have said to much all ready.
