And the longer we all set on the couch tight lipped letting it happen, the harder it becomes to get off our Azz's and do anything about it.

I would like to see the school not give up their nick name as a show of defience to the NCAA. The name obviously means alot to that school and the people of N.D., and the worst that could happen if they don't prevail in court is to loose a chance to MAYBE host the NCAA Hockey playoffs once every......how many years?.....3...5...10? | |

| For those of you not from the area, let me add to the article.
First - Ralph Englestad Arena - what is it? Well, I don't even feel like I am going out on a limb saying it is the nicest hockey facility in the world. To get an image of what it is, let's say you build a 25,000 square foot house - at a cost of 5 million dollars. Another person builds a 5 million dollar house, but it is only 5,000 square feet. They both cost 5 million dollars, they are both houses, but the smaller one will be filled with bells and whistles that are not present in the larger one. Ralph Englestad arena is not the largest, but it is of the highest quality hockey arena ever. The team locker rooms are all by themselves amazing, and nicer than even any professional team, of any sport.
Central to the Englestad Arena is the Sioux mascott. The design and construction of the arena is such that it makes it impossible to separate the arena from the Sioux mascott, nickname or whatever you would like to call it. The late Englestad definitely had it in mind that by designing, owning, and paying for the entire facility, he could do whatever he wanted. He was very open in his support of the UND mascott - the Sioux - no ifs, ands, or buts. It has been the Sioux, it is the Sioux, and it always will be the Sioux, or there will be a price to be paid.
With that intention, and his somewhat extravigant personality, and his fortune, he did one more thing that is not known outside of the local area. When he paid to have the Englestad Arena built, he also pre-paid for demolition when UND no longer referred to themselves as the Sioux. Contacts have already been signed, fee has already been paid, legal arrangement is such that he can do anything he wants with his arena he built, he owns, and is allowing UND to use.
Kind of interesting, and not unlikely, that UND can refer to themselves as the Sioux throughout the regular season. When post season comes, and the championship is scheduled for the Englestad Arena, maybe on the day of the National Championship the teams will witness the wrecking ball destroying the Arena on National Television. That is the kind of extravegant nature of the late Mr. Ralph Englestad. The nicest hockey arena in the world, can be gone in a very short time. | |
