Location: Waukesha Wisconsin | Sorry Steve,
I did not realize that WF was not associated with Fanatics Radio any longer
I knew that you guys were doing a great job with WalleyeFIRST radio
A saw that you still had 14 shows in the archives so I made the wrong assumption.
I look forward to your interview.
I think it's neat and it takes real character for Carl to step forward and offer these interviews.

Location: Rockford MN | It's unreal what money and fame has done to sports in general, what used to be guys and gals doing what they love has turned into a much different game. This is in all sports, and now fishing is getting hit with it. People love scandles and can't wait to debate the next one. Atleast now we will here one side of the story, then we will have more rummors and who what why and when's. I know who Carl is , but don't know him well enough to judge him. I will just take him at his word. The little things get magnified 10 fold by the internet, I guess we will find out what happened after all.
This is very BIG of Carl coming out on a touchy subject. I wish him luck on clearing this up. Remember, everyone this is not life and death it's just fishing and it's FUN (well sometimes) this has been a long year and now we can sit back and relax again for a few months.
Good Luck Carl! |

| naw, I'm pretty sure that isn't WF........it seems other "sites" might have a vested interest in the FLW. Weather it be administered or not.
Anyways...it's still a good laugh. The censorship part, or hopefully lack there of.......
It'll be good to hear what Carl has to say. I think people should know, weather it be a gray issue or not, creative thinking leads to creative solutions. |

| I find it pretty amusing that Stacker (Denny) emails me for information one day, because he has a tournament coming up, and when I give it to him he THANKS me for my help, but a few days later when I make a comment like "nuff said" on a post...which meant "nuff said by ME" by the way....I get attacked by him and so many others. Huh??? It reminded me of a statement, or bit of advice, Pete Harsh gave me when I first started out in the tournament business...He said, "just remember, not everyone who shakes your hand is your friend". Boy, was he right!
I also stated that I knew both sides of the story, NOT because I wanted to feel important, but to qualify my statements with first hand facts...not hearsay (which happens so often on these sites)....which I would have been accused of doing if I didn't qualify my statement with knowing first hand, both sides of the story. Either way, it was a lose/lose situation.
It wasn't my place to say what happened...it was Carl's, or the FLW's, or the Protesters ONLY. All you needed to know was that, "Yes, a rule was violated and the decision was made to DQ Carl's weight for the day". THAT was the information.
But, the National Enquirer mentality of so many anonymous posters on these boards, just won't let that be enough. They want the story, so they can sit in judgement of another for their mistakes. I guess it makes them feel better...I don't know.
As for deleting the thread on WC...how many times do we have to tell you guys to read the rules? NO Bashing! Geez...
Nuff said (By ME!!!!!!!!)

Location: Fremont, Wisconsin | Steve, let me make myself clear.
I don't hold walleyefirst, walleyecentral or any other site responsible for not reporting on this subject. If the moderators don't like a threads direction they should lock it in a room, but not total deletion. I believe, and have said so in the past, that the circuits themselves need to issue a full statement/explaination when problems as well as good things occur. Every circuit, big or small, local or national, has had a instance that has never been reported on. I can honestly think of over 20 things in competitive walleye fishing in the past 5 yrs alone that I would have like to have heard more about. If they think that it is none of our business, well, as fans of the sport, it is our business. Maybe There is someone out there that idolizes Carl. They see him DQ. Does this make him want to stay a fan? Did Carl do it? Hard tellin' because the circuits just want to sweep things under a rug.
Recently there was a problem at a MWS tournament in escanaba. Jim Coon came on here and answered the public. Scuttle butt lasted a day or 2. Every director doesnot have time to do internet answers but they have the time and resource to make official statements regarding issues. They can do on the phone interviews and statements to walleyefirst.

I don't think they were "bashing" as much as saying the whole stoty should be put out there.
I would have used a line from the great movie: "And thats all I have to say about that"
(Forrest Gump) "nuff said" to me ment I know what happened and it's none of your business. I know you did'nt mean it that way, just read it that way the 1st time I read it. Oh well the story will be out there for all now. Better have thick skin on the web, people read things into everything said on the sites. Face to face you can read people better than on some web-site know what I mean. |
|
|
|
| I find it quite interesting that the "outdoors media" group is not on top of this story printing the comments from both parties! This is an information source be it good or bad, as media personal with press passes and so on you should be on top of this like flies on well you know what!
We all have our needs and wants in life and I want to know the truth, and I want to hear the story, I don't NEED to know any of it but his fellow competitors do NEED to know the truth and not all the hearsay rumors!
It's unfortunate that the other site gets the interview but what the hey! Hire a reporter dig deep and post the TRUTH! Thats why we come here!
Good Luck

I found it amusing that this adage was posted by an anonymous poster on Walleye Central. But that is a whole different story :-)
It goes something like this:
Arguing with someone on the internet is like winning a poo slinging contest. You might win, but you're still going to end up covered with poo.

Location: Fremont, Wisconsin | whoa whoa whoa julia, attack is a very bold statement. I have called you friend in the past. I knew you when you had no clue how to tie a spinner rig. I want to be able to call you friend in the future as well. When you stated nuff said, I took it as us fans dont need to know more about the incident. I could not read the "by me " part. I am getting old and my eye site is marginal however! LOL. Lets not make this personal, its not about the fisherman, the fans, or internet geeks. Its about taking this SPORT seriously. The circuits have to have credability with there followers.
As far as what you posted, it was great, it gave us a little insite, I just thought with the nuff said statement you meant "here is what happened now drop it, its none of your business".
And then today you wrote:
It wasn't my place to say what happened...it was Carl's, or the FLW's, or the Protesters ONLY. All you needed to know was that, "Yes, a rule was violated and the decision was made to DQ Carl's weight for the day". THAT was the information.

I guess i now think that IS what you meant.
I did ask you about a tournament from 5 years ago that you fished and you told me the info I asked from you, I did thank you, told you if I could help you in the future just ask, but I don't quite see how this is relavent. Why is it you would bring this up?
Walleye first, sorry to have this discussion on the board, I will not go any further with this. I know you reported what you could. |

|
| It's funny anymore when I read the posts on WC and WF by guys who do not even fish either circuit...
When any angler enters, be it the PWT or the FLW, they read the rules going into these tournaments, and agree to abide by them.
Both circuits have policies they abide by. One of those policies is, that any decision on an angler is kept between the Tournament organization and that angler, and that the Tournament organization will not make a statement on it...ie: Tony Christianson. That's why Steve Worrall couldn't even get the information. There is NO press release on this subject.
In defense of Juls, her wording like Gordy suggested, may have been misleading from what she meant...her only mistake.
Juls was Carl's launch driver on day three and four. Carl and Juls had this conversation as to what happened. Being obligated to abide by the rules of the FLW, she could not comment on the ruling. That is up to the parties involved.
What is so hard to understand about this ruling? Yet, the finger pointing and innuendos from you Monday morning quarterbacks continue. It's not being swept under the rug. I'm certain that over time the information will come out, and that is up to Carl, and only Carl to speak on the subject.
I will say one thing in Carl's defense, there was NO cheating involved, nor was it insinuated.
One thing about the FLW, the rules are applied equally to all who enter. If you violate them, no matter who you are, or what position your in, they will enforce their rules equally across the board, as it should be.

This isn't the National Enquirer. Never will be.
As information becomes available, we will post it appropriately. The questions have been asked and the answers will eventually come in whatever context the folks involved require.
As far as the Circuits 'sweeping' things under the proverbial rug, I don't think that's what happened at all. The FLW clearly stated there was a protest, and a decision made appropriate to what the Director felt was a sportsmanship violation. If, for an example, a baseball coach gets ejected, do you immediately find out what was said between the coach and the Ump? That's up to the team and the coach to decide whether to release that info to the public or not.
The issue at the PWT turned out to be exactly what I said, NOTHING. No protest, no DQ, just a question about a rule that had some interpretation confusion surrounding the issue. If we had made some huge- whodidwhattowhomandwasdq'doratleastprotestedandthePWTishidingit-deal about that,we'd have failed you all.

Location: Fremont, Wisconsin | Rick, The part about the rules that no one knew, that part was good. I did not know that was how there rule was written. If indeed they would have made a statement using that rule for not talking about it, it would have been fine. I will say that if a rule is set and followed to a T, That is how is ought to be. Perfect!!
As for monday morning quarterbacks, when you put yourself on public display, and you have been in the lime light for a long time, you will have this. It is called growth, for if no one cares what you are doing, your sponsors have no reason to pay you.

| If I may... here is a cut/paste of rule #7 from the FLW web site.
7. Sportsmanship
All contestants are required to follow high standards of sportsmanship, courtesy and conservation and to conduct themselves in a manner that will be a credit to themselves, to FLW Outdoors, FLW Outdoors sponsors, the sport of fishing, or FLW Outdoors' efforts to promote the sport. Examples of conduct not complying with those standards include, but are not limited to, the following:
Violation of, or failure to comply with, any of the official rules for the 2005 FLW Walleye Tour.
Consumption and/or possession of alcoholic beverages or any mind-altering substance during registration, the pretournament meeting or during tournament hours extending through the weigh-in procedure.
Abuse or addiction to, mind-altering substances
Conviction of a felony within the past 36 months
Suspension/disqualification from any tournament or fishing organization.
Any other words, conduct or actions reflecting unfavorably upon efforts to promote safety, sportsmanship, fair competition and compliance with tournament rules, or which fail to comply with the standards set forth in the first sentence of paragraph 7.
In case of any conduct not complying with the standards, FLW Outdoors shall have the right to refuse any application, or to deny a confirmed application by returning the deposit or entry fee of a previously accepted application, or to disqualify a contestant.
You can go to www.walleyetour.flwoutdoors.com and click on the rule link under the tour tab on the left side for the complete rules.

The tournament organization will not make a statement on a ruling. That leaves it up to the individual if he/she so chooses to explain what happened.

| Well fellow sports people. Here is my two cents worth. I have been fishing walleye tournaments for 20 years and I have been running tournaments for 15 years Currently the Illinois Walleye Trail. I am firm believer in following the rules. If you have them, enforce them, regardless of who, when or where. If not, no reason to waste paper ink and time. I am firm beleiver that 99.9% of fisherpeople are honest, it is always the .1% that we have to deal with that takes all the time and engery and sometimes the fun out these events. I don't know what happened but I am sure that Carl was not cheating or doing something terribly wrong but I am also sure that there was some infraction or the protest would not have been made. The Tournament Director made the decision based on this and I am sure it was not a spur of the moment decision. Now to the real meat of what my thoughts are. Over the past several months there has been a lot of discussion on these boards after the Bass Masters Classic hoping that Walleye Tournaments will be there one of these days. I hope they will be there also, But when major sponsors read these type of items we have a long way to go. These type of items will come out when the concerned parties are ready for them to come out, like Carl is doing and I commend him for this and give him even more respect and I don't even know him. I have seen on several occassions where a Bass Tournament fisherman has called the Director and told them on the phone that they are DQing themselves for the day because of this or that. Lets go fish and have some fun and not get hung up these type of issues.

Location: Rockford MN | I agree Bob,
However people that really don't or have never fished at these levels have a hard time understanding why problems are occuring out there. Some are just brain farts others are rules that are not to the letter. Some of the rules read one way to one angler and read another way to some other angler. Rules should never have a "Gray" area, all the rules need to be clear for all to follow. I also believe ALL rules should be followed no matter what. Sportsmenship issues seem to be one of those gray areas, what I might consider unsportsmen like someone else calls just fishing. Read the rules some are pretty "gray" and are being pushed to limits they were never intended. Just my take on whats happening out there.
I'll try to give you the best example I can> You are allowed 2 rods per angler but you can run 2 lures off each line. Now at GB I saw guys running clips attached to the main line with a line and lure attached. OK, so you get a fish on that line with the clip you reel up to the clip and then remove the line NOW guess what you have 5 lines in the water and not the 4 allowed. See gray area rule, and many were running this system. I thought about this for a long time, I chose not to run this system feeling it was against what they were trying to say in the rule. Now if you were to run a 3 way with 2 lures thats what they ment. See rules are being taken advantage of because they are not clear enough. This is just one of the many, all in my opinion are being used to gain an unfair advantage.
Oh well the people that want to know about this lastest happening are going to hear about it, and from the party involved instead of someone on a web-site under a made up name. |

It is illegal—
• to fish with more than three hooks, baits, or lures. |

Location: Rockford MN | Sorry see I was not clear enough. 2 rods were the rules per angler but 3 baits could be used. Now try to figure out the rules when they are written like I posted. Get my meaning? You are not breaking a State law by running 2 rods with one having another line attached (State law says 3 rods) but when you take that line off the main line you have 1 more than the tour allowed. Broken rule right? |

| Steve, I don't read the Enquirer and would like to thank you for the opportunity to learn many great things from the Pro's that DO post without feeling threatened by what their writings may be percieved as.
I have met many great people in this industry and admired many as well through this site as far back as when Lumpy ran it. Some have come and some have gone but the good apples continue to visit and for that I am thankfull.
Although I have met Carl but don't "know" him, I was very surprised to see the 0 as were others I'm sure. I don't know him well enough to call him up and ask but will ask when I see him out promoting his sponsors!
I visit here because of folks like Rick, Juls, Dennis, T-mac, WE and many others, thank you very much for your insights, and your willingness to share. I too was unaware of the "rule" definition (fine print is tough on these old eyes).
I guess you could say I have been sitting here all these years trying to decide if I wanted to take it to the next level or not. When things like this happen I realize how little I really know. I feel for the young guys that come in and get beat up because they didn't know enough or were "fresh meat" and thought just because they can catch fish that they could compete! Carl is a seasoned veteran and to see this DQ is disturbing to say the least.
I may have come off harsh in my last post so I appologize, but it sure would be nice if someone got the "STORY" and printed "Carl's, the Accuser and the FLW's official position. As my education in communication taught me that is true journalism. I could post what I know but that would be hearsay, besides this thread has brought out more interaction than we have seen in a LONG time!
Good Luck
