This 40.68-pound rainbow trout from McGregor Bay, in the northeast corner of Georgian Bay, has swept aside the former 29.12-pound Ontario record rainbow trout, taken off the mouth of the Nottawasaga River in 1975. Joanne and Bruce Vendramin, from Sudbury, were downrigging when the lunker hit. Joanne, using a light rod and only 6-pound-test line, landed the fish
This week, the Royal Ontario Museum and the Ontario Federation of Anglers and Hunters verified that a 40.68 pound rainbow trout, caught off the shores of Little Current on September 21, is now an official Ontario record fish. The monster rainbow trout surpasses the previous Ontario record, caught in 1975 near Midland, by over 11- pounds.
"We're just happy to go out fishing. We never thought of catching a record fish ourselves," said 43-year old Joanne Vendramin who, for the past 15 years, has enjoyed hundreds of family fishing trips with her husband and two boys.

| I happen to work with this guys brother, and they are not pro anglers/charter captains or glory seekers. They were just out for some afternoon family fun. From what I have been told, they were actually targeting Pinks with light line and small A.C. shiners.
This fish is likely a crocker (a sterile Pen escapee from croker bay) and that why it is SOOOO huge, they don't waste there energy making spawning runs.
Either way, this is an incredible fish and crushes the last record, which by the way also came from Georgian Bay.

According to what I've read, they were downrigging - with 6# line? Come on. Something smells fishy here...
Is this a veiled attempt to set a ridiculous line class record?
Thanks for that (first hand) explanation and verification Shawn.
And skeptic, let me add that you've obviously have never heard of Capt. Dick Swan. The famous (often written about) Lake Michigan charter Captain from the 70's/early 80's, that always used his world famous (Swan Noodle Rods) and 6# test to fish for Steelheads and King Salmon in the rivers, and out of his charter boat at the ports of Ludington and Manistee. This was Dicks thing, and he became famous for it fast, but not because of this notoriety for doing so. Because people (including myself) hated waiting for 1/2 an hour for Dick or his clients to land a fish in the river, or getting waved-off in the trolling pac by him, because he needed 1/4 mile of circumference space to play and land any kind of fish he got on in the lake. His famous old saying back then? "I could land a fish using a spiders web, given enough time and space". We all thanked God back then, that they never made a reel that could hold webbing.

Lets skip a few steps Viking, and try this link. As the problem may simply be at your end.

That's funny because it crossed my mind as I was writing my post but, given that I don't know you well enough, I restrained myself. :) I am pretty sure you would've taken it well but you never know.... |

Oh, I can laugh at myself well enough. I know my own faults and many misgivings. But I've seen enough of your posts to fomulate that your probably to much of a decent individual to attack for no reason. |

| Capt. Dan, you are coorect. I have never heard of Capt. Swan. Probably because I don't live in the area or fish salmon and trout much. Regardless, that is one monster fish no matter how it was caught! Thanks for the 'noodle' explanation. As the owner of a 12' noodle rod, I am well aware of their ability to handle large fish on light line. Awesome fish. |

I want to personally thank you Sceptic. You've restored a little of my fast-fading faith in this board. Not because of your positive reinforcment of my answer to you. But because its one of the few times that I haven't drawn durogitory remarks from a poster with a benine name/handle when doing so. Maybe there is light at the end of the tunnel.

Forgive the slip of the tongue. The statement can be misleading. My faith in your ability to remove the unwarranted slams and simple trash statements on this board is still intact. And I understand about the busy schedules that you and the few board monitors have, and still keep up with monitoring these things as much as you can. And I will not let the few idiots, that make this their life's mission to degrade and/or try to embarrass true contributors, intimidate me off any board.
But in the same vein of thought, I'm starting to tire of it all. These same groupies that fallow me and some others around slipping the knife in continually at every opportunity, have had their IP address numbers banned on a few of the other boards I visit. This has stopped 99% of their unwarranted attacks permanently. These particular boards also require registration (some insist on using real names) with a valid E-mail address and IP address. All this making it just a little harder to shoot anybody in the back from a dark room.
I know your policies here on WF, and will respect them as long as I am a posting contributor. And not just because I sign my real name to everything I post. As you know I left another board over a year ago, not because I had a fight or fall out with its owner, but because of their policies in this regard and others. And I certainly won't insinuate here and now, that my contributions alone are worth changing anything concerning this board. I will however, surely be drawn to places in the future that I can share info and interact with others without continually being made fun of, called a liar or have my integrity and character impugned. And I hope my honesty here does not offend anybody on or having to do with this site, as that was/is surely not my intention.

Thanks Risor.
Kind of ironic that the guys who like what I share feel guilty, and the back stabbers sleep like babies. And I know a few others feel the same way without actually saying so. And this isn't a ploy by me to get stroked with these type comments. I've explained before what I feel my rewards are for sharing info or helping people out with answers I may know. I guess I'm simply searching for a solution to what basically is a stupid problem, caused by only certain people with nothing better to do with their lives. Nuff said, before this thread becomes yet another troll for a bottom feeder.

We do try to keep it clean here, and will make sure the folks who gain 'courage' by hiding behind a key board won't get much air time. I wouldn't worry about any silly or untoward remarks, every single one is irrelevant. The remarks that matter are the ones that remain here on the board for everyone to enjoy. |
