I'm not sure on bow mounts but I know a bit about crawler harnesses. Don't use cheap line or components. Use at least 14 lb test fluorocarbon leader material, not the regular Vanish line because you will end up snapping them on every other fish. Seaguar or P-line is good but it isn't cheap. You don't want to skimp on the hooks either. Like all other things, you get what you pay for. There is a reason Eagle Claw walleye hooks are $5 per 100 and Owner, Mustad and Gamakatsu are around $25 per 100. So pick up a few size 2 or 4 hooks, depends on how big of eyes you are fishing. You might even consider using a treble (Triple Grip) for the back hook. I would also use the interchangable clevises so you can switch blades whenever you want. For beads go to a craft store, you can get them really cheap there.
Any more questions just ask.

I know nothing about crawler harnesses but I would suggest a MinnKota Maxxum 80 for your 1775 (62")

Jeff,

Most the the posts were right on the money for crawler harnesses. Use at least 14# test. I use Trilene XT and have not had
a problem yet. Make sure you buy your line at a place that sells alot of line. This will ensure your getting fresh line.

As for your beads, if you buy them form the craft store, debur the holes!!! The beads will tear up the line after a days use.
Use #2 hooks also. #4's are to small.

I usually make my leaders 6' long.

I have a 74# Minn Kota Power Drive-Auto Pilot and a Minn Kota 2 back 24 volt charger for sale. Both were installed in the
boat mid season this year, but I'm selling the boat and their not going w/ it. I'm asking $600 for the 74# and $150 for the charger.
Both are in like new shape. If your interested, send me a PM.

Both were installed on a 17' Alumicraft and I'll tell ya, I could troll at 3.5 MPH w/ the 74#.

I'm going to take a estimated guess that I've tied maybe 20,000+ harnesses in my life time. I know when I owned and ran my sports shop for 4 years, I remember one 4th of July weekend I sold 1,200 of my own rigs. Harnesses held a higher place of esteem back in the 60's, 70's and 80's on the Great Lakes and their inlets, rivers and Bays. Well before Hot-N-Tot's and the many other cranks that replaced them became more popular. And now it seems they have made a comeback of sorts, as few things will ever beat a juicy crawler in a skirt to a hungry walleye.

And I really like Steves answer. Because to answer your questions with any credence, will only lend yet another voice to the many who think, theirs is the best tieing combination.

I hear ya Dan. Experimenting is one of the fun things about fishing. What size hooks? What color and size of beads and spinners? Do red hooks work? What length? How fast or how slow? What kind and pound test of line? Ask 20 people and you'll get several dozen correct answers. It all depends on what they want today!!!!!!!!!!

As for the bowmount, I have to say it depends on what you wnat the bowmount for. I use my bowmount when pulling harnesses, as propulsion, or just steering, when I use with the kicker. I have a MK AP65, and it has plenty of power for my Lund 1700 Angler SS. I also use it for all the other uses a bowmount was intended for. I think it would be hard to use a Maxxum, or any cable steer bowmount, for pulling harnesses. If you only want the bowmount for operating while up front on the pedal, then I'd say go for the Maxxum.

Most of the info on the harnesses, I agree with, although I probably don't get too hyped up with many colors, and sizes of beads. And I don't use that many blades, either for that matter. Give me gold, copper, silver, orange, Chartruese in 5's and hatchett's, and I'm pretty happy. I like deep cut colorado's, hammered or not, and hammered hatchetts. Big Hatchetts, too!
