Subject: MY MERCURY 200 EFI WILL NOT START AT TIMES


SHE WILL FIRE UP AND RUN LIKE A CHAMP,THEN FOR NO REASON,OR SHOULD I SAY FORE SOME REASON I CAN'T FIND SHE WON'T START,HAVE SPARK TO THE PLUGS BOTH FUEL PUMPS RUNNING,TAKE IT HOME AND FIRES UP RIGHT NOW,HAVE LEFT IT WITH BOAT SHOP,CHECKED OUT AND TRIED FOR A WEEK AND FIRES EVERY TIME,I TAKE IT ON THE WATER AND IT WILL RUN AND AFTER I SHUT UT DOWN IT WILL NOT RESTART.HAS ANYONE HAD THE SAME PROBLEM?IF SO WHAT WAS THE MAGIC WORD?

Terry,

Had a similar problen with my new 150 Yamaha... It would run like a champ and then it would not start.. I also had spark and gas at the motor, but mine turned out to be a loose wire on the ignition switch. It drove me nuts for about 3 months till the guys at Anchor Marine in Appleton spent 6 hours and found the problem...

THANKS FOR TAKING THE TIME FOR A REPLY SKEETER,I HAVE CHECKED WIRING TILL I'M BLUE IN THE FACE,I WAS THINKING OF CHECKING THE KILL SWITCH A LITTLE CLOSER BUT THAT WILL HAVE TO WAIT TILL TOMORROW AS THE SUPER BOWL IS ABOUT DUE TO PLAY,

I'd say the same, check you ignition wiring at the harness, motor, and key switch.

Dont quote me on this, but I seem to remember something with the thermostat fouling out. I remember reading about this happening to a fellow merc. Worth a looksie.

Don't know if anyone answered that question for you but I had the same thing happen to me and it drove me crazy. It turned out that the oil ejection setting was wrong, easy fix but no one could figure it out! Took 3 trips to Bass Pro before we knew what it was.
