Gander Mountain partners with Crystal-Pierz Marine

ST. PAUL, Minn. - Outdoor store chain Gander Mountain Co., and Crystal-Pierz Marine have formed a partnership, demonstrating that the movement of big box stores into the marine industry doesn't have to be bad for dealers.

Under the partnership agreement, Crystal-Pierz Marine consultants will train sales associates in Gander Mountain's stores in Forest Lake, Minn., and Baxter, Minn., as well as provide support for customer financing and back office functions.

In addition to the Stratos boat line that Gander Mountain currently sells, the partnership will include Glastron and other Genmar brands. Customers in those stores will have access to Crystal-Pierz Marine's inventory of over 1,200 boats. Gander Mountain will continue to offer Yamaha's G3 line of boats as well as kayaks and canoes.

So, now you can go to Gander and pick out one of Crystal Pierz's inventory boats and buy it from a Gander salesperson?

Maybe next you can buy a Crystral Pierz boat at Burger King?

Another consolidation in the industry. Is this a good thing? Who knows. the model has worked for Tracker, but Tracker owns the Bass Pro centers outright. There isn't all that much margin in the product to start, so I can't imagine how both parties are making a full mark.

As long as the service is there, I guess it makes little difference.
