| Accudepth 27's, right? At least that's what I called them quite often. |

Location: Menasha, WI | That's why I was asking if anybody was familiar with this line. A good deal is not a good deal if they're complete crap.
D.A.M. is an acronym for Deutsche Angelgeräte Manufaktur. |

| If you are talking about the Accudepth 27's... I'd tell you that they are not a very good reel.... and yes they are complete crap!! I bought 6 of them new at Gander last year and after 1 outing, I took them all back and got SG17's...
Here's what I experienced. The line would go behind the spool, which to fix, you had to cut the line and pull it out from behind the spool. This happened on every single one of the reels I used that day several times each. Second, the reel will not release to free spool if you have tension on the line.. SO if you have a board on the line in the water with tension on the line, you have to reach out and grab the line, release the pressure from the reel and then you can get the reel to let out line. Flipping the lever while the reel is under tension does nothing....
If you are indeed talking about the Accudepth model.... now you know why Cabelas had them on sale for $29.95... IMHO they are not worth the hassle. When I took my reels back to Gander, they said they had a whole box of returns for the exact reasons I had stated.

| Long, long ago.... DAM made the "Quick" line of spinning reels... precision cut brass gears... German precision.... I have three that work as well today as ever (1970s) but they are retired and hang on the wall.... Too bad that a good name gets dragged down just for marketing junk.... |

Location: Menasha, WI | Well, I decided to take a chance. I just won a D.A.M. linecounter reel on ebay. I'll provide a review after I get a chance to use it.
Thanks for the input. |

| Sorry, I should have added that I am not familiar with the line of reels you are talking about. Weak attempt a humor. Good luck with your dam reel. |

Location: Rhinelander | I used them in the 70's as well, and thought they were the best spinning reel on the market at the time. Many reels are now built in China and Korea, and labeled there for the builder. Certain models may be really high quality, certain models the opposite; the popular brand reels having to take care not to trash the branding some by introducing a reel that they didn't build that is low quality, albeit a good price. Before I fish any reel these days, I look it over very hard in the store. |

| Are they still around?
I had some D.A.M. "Quick" spinning reels back in the 70s and 80s.
They were "ok"...nothing special.
