I took mine in even though it pissed fine and the temp was always good. But it is a 2001 motor and I do run on some sandy lakes. So I told them to rebuild it. $137.00 +1.5hrs labor was the bill.......I was told $90 total...but they changed thier mind and said because it was a 225 Opti. An impeller is an impeller...right? Sheesh...as someone says.. So do it yourself...I wish I had. Maybe if you continuously run extreemly long distances. Guys like you are the reason people ruin there engines. Mercury outboards have two intervals for changing the impeller. A 100 hr change or a 300 hr change depending on the type of engine you have. Stick to the intervals and you should have no issues with overheating. Put the motor in gear before take apart. Now that thing had a lot of hours on it. Only changed one impeller in my lifetime that was on gramps 1952 Firestone that dry rotted after sittin for 20 years. I just picked up my new 115Opti and according to the manual it should be changed after 300 hrs. There is nothing in the manual about changing it after 100hrs.
