Location: Manitowoc, WI | Guys/Gals, I for one am tired of hearing all the P'ing and M'ing and getting a bad rep just because I own a big boat with a big motor. I slow down to a crawl when approaching other boats out of respect for them while they are fishing or just motoring somewhere. I made the mistake, once, of taking out a guys planer board while zooming past him. I stopped, apologized and replaced his board. I felt like a moron afterwards but it taught me a lesson. The following link is sickening to read. I am a walleye fisherman also and do not want to be categorized as a jerk. Lets just all have some common courtesy and obey the laws. Slowing down, as not to give others a free roller coaster ride when you really don't have to, is called being courteous. Wether you are a tourney angler, pro or amateur, or just a person who likes to fish, it won't kill any of us to think about the other guy instead of the prize. I don't want this thread to turn into a P'ing match, I just want everyone to be aware of how people think and right away categorize us as jerks. Steve, you can dust this post if you think it is out of line.

Location: OSHKOSH, WI | Nice post...I own a big boat too I like to think and there are people out there that ruin it for everone...the too close shore fisherman who picks to fish 5 feet from you with...the little boat who decides to fish within a cast of you....the point being all we can is inform people of courtesy and hope that it works. Some people just will not change and that is the hard facts. FLY |

| I was on the Wolf near the Rat river on Saturday and more than a couple of times I wanted to stand up with a bell sinker and hit the idiots who were driving crazy square in the head...(if only I could cast that good!) I could not believe how a handful of guys were driving.. And yes it was guys driving Rangers and Skeeters and Warriors.. All big nice Walleye boats with kicker motors and fully rigged. These guys driving these big rigs did not give 2 hoots about how many boats were near by... In one near miss case, I had a guy in a 620 Ranger; miss my 1850 skeeter by about 3 feet on full plane.... I almost started to dive for the water.
My brother and I both agree that things were never like this in the past.... Now I know why fishing on the Wolf turns off so many guys.
For God's sake... use a little courtesy and slow down... you're not racing on a slalom course!

AMEN
glad some of the more fortunate people with bigger boats have some courtesy for those of us with without the extra $40k+ to afford the same great luxury. Even i in my little 14'er always slow down, no matter how big or small the other boats are. |

| Also don't forget to slow down for the people fishing on the rafts. I've seen it enough times when boats slow down by the other boats but open it up as they go by our raft. Things really get rocking sometimes from the waves. |

|
| Not to sound too dumb, but do I have to legally slow down for rafts or is it just courtesy? |

Location: Rhinelander WI | Courtesy! It shouldn't have to be illegal. I remember when I used to fish off the rafts. I got rocked out of the bunk a few times. We all need to share this greatl body of water. |

| Well I see you don't know anything about boating. It's not courtesy, its the law to slow down!!!! And remember, fishermen were here first. |

| I believe there is no law that forces you to slow down for the rafts other then the FACT that you are responsible for your wake. Which means if your wake causes someone one the raft to fall, lose a rod or break something, you are liable. For instance, I had a guy knock me off my bike seat with a HUGE wake, and I injured my knee. If I had been able to get his boat number I could have sued him for damages.

Location: Appleton wi | John there are rafts that are not in the no wake zone and there is no law that says you must slow down it is a courtesy! |
|
|
|
| It is illegal to create a hazardous wake. It is illegal to operate a boat at a speed that is greater than reasonable or prudent under the existing conditions. |

|
| water level is so low there is very little prudent exsisting conditions you would have a hard time having a ticket stick if you fought it.Like eye said there is no law saying you have to slow down in a umarked area other than basic boating rules of thumb and "common courtesy" |

| Just another point i like to bring up.At the new london boat launch i was talking to the local sherriff and asked him this question. This was his comment. "The no wake zone was written for land owners and shore errosion not for river rafts" .Anyone who lives on the river knows when there extremly high water conditions they have and will again have a all river no wake for short time periods .The water condtions are no where near that point. Again if poeple used common sense and coutresy you wont have to worry about leads weight thrown at you you by skeeter! |

Location: Milw, WI | Try fishing the wolf in the summer on a weekend.
If you think any of it is bad now, try it on a 80 degree day.
It will not be a fishing boats flying by 2 feet from you.
But one after another powerboaters, then a hour later they come back down in the same order.
Face it it is very tight where the rat comes in.
Heck that river is tight all over.

Location: OSHKOSH, WI | What I like is when any boat I don't care what size decides to slow down just before he intersects you...then you get an even bigger wave rocking you when he is coming off plane. I wish sometimes people would just stay on full plane and just give me space. That wave is easier to deal with. Bob |

| Hey Flyman. I totaly agree with that. Last year one of the big boats decided to slow down
just as he was nearing us and almost swamped us in our little 14 footer. All of a sudden instead of a little one foot wake we had a 3 footer comming our way. Luckely we were near shore at the time cause I thought sure we were going over. I would much rather see the boats stay on plane when passing me as long as there is ample room between us. |
