Anything below the Neenah/Menasha Dam is pretty much out of bounds for me. It's not so much that I'm worried about my own health, but my kids love to eat the fish we catch and I don't want to put them at risk even if that risk is not great. |

2. Caught by the DePere dam? No
3. Caught on the Fox in Menasha? No
4. Caught at the dam in Menasha? No
5. Caught at the dam in Neenah? No
6. Caught in Little Lake Butte des Morts? No, but I too have a slight glow to my teeth in the dark from eating perch from here as a kid.
7. Caught in Lake Winnebago?Yes
8. Caught in the Fox in Oshkosh?Yes
9. Caught in Poygan?Yes

I stick to smaller fish and trim the fat for all the above yes responses. |

Do you mean from PCB's and mercury levels? Thanks for the reply!!
My primary concern is with PCBs -- avoid them altogether when possible even though the risk is minimal. With mercury it's harder to avoid but by eating only smaller fish and limiting my kid's consumption to a few meals/month I think the risk is minimized to nearly zero.
Someone mentioned previously cutting the fat off. That is the proper way to dress a fish to avoid PCBs but mercury is found in the muscle/flesh so trimming the fat doesn't do much. |

Location: Menasha, WI | I believe the accepted standard for mercury testing is to use scaled, skin-on filets ground twice. I'm not sure how they sample for PCBs.

Location: Manitowoc, WI | Mercury is not much of a problem for me in the extremely cold months. I just hang them up side down in the garage and when the temps fall below 40 degrees I just cut the heads off with all the mercury in them. LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! |

| "1. Caught in the Bay of GB? occasionally, but I feel guilty because Jayman says I should release anything I catch. I think it's because my brother keeps winning the weekly Walleye contest at work and he works with Jayman. "
Now that just made my day. |
