Location: Rhinelander | 53 degrees with the forecast for a rising barometer and NW winds 15 to 25, mostly clear skies and a high in the 60's were the conditions as the FLW field staged on the Mississippi River this morning just South of Red Wing, Minnesota.
" My first fish here was a 29" 'eye. I thought, wow, here we go, this will be fun! The river came up 18" yesterday, and despite catching plenty of walleyes the two previous days it was tough yesterday. I have fish going both North and South, so I have a decision to make." said Tuffy/Evinrude Pro Gordy Powers at 6 AM this morning as he and his Co Angler waited to launch.
Most of the anglers I spoke to were confident the bite would be good, but rising water due to heavy rains in the North ( for example, the Red River is at or over flood stage right now)had a few Pros concerned about their A or B spots. Stay with WalleyeFIRST for continuing coverage, including the live leaderboard this afternoon at about 3 PM.
The winds of change are blowing a bit here at the FLW, stay tuned for details this evening!
G3 Pro and WalleyeFIRST moderator Jerry says hello, and was confident in his bite going OK. He asked if WalleyeFIRST survived in his absence, and i assured him we did, barely!

Location: Rhinelander | The key to a top ten Day One finish was definitely female walleyes, and BIG girls at that. There were a number of 5 fish limits in the 7 to 9.5 pound range. the leading limits were comprised of walleyes, and some were definitley big girls. Many of the anglers who had one or two big fish in the basket fely that tomorrow will prove out to be even better for fish of that class. Day Two of the FLW Red Wing will tell the story!
Word was the rising water upset the river channel bite, and that rise is anticipated to continue short term.

Location: Menominee MI, In Da UP Eh? | Soooo eeeeee! here come the piggies!
Man those are some nice fish! It looks as the rising water did not turn of many fish. And if the river channel bite is off, there are tons of side channels, lakes etc.. up and down the river that will provide.
I wonder what day two will bring?
