Location: Essexville, MI./Saginaw Bay. | Being in the people business (so to speak) I was wondering how and if the gas prices are going to change any of your fishing vacations plans or free time strategies for any or all of you guys. I seem to be right on track with charter bookings this spring/summer, even though I had to raise some of my charter prices, especially on the BIG boat because of the Gas situation. And my bud who runs our local Golf Course, says even their memberships are up so far. His figuring is that people will want to stay closer to home and golf and not travel away as much. Any thoughts on the matter, or any definite plan changes you've made because of it? |

Location: Waukesha Wisconsin | I raised my guide fees $50 but I'm still getting just as many requests. BUT it looks like most people are booking me to learn lakes closer to home instead of traveling far.
These people are usually one time clients without repeat business because once they pick my brian about different spots they fish it themselves all the time. I see these types of people all the time now on a couple of my regular lakes. They always like to pass on fishing spots and their success to me |

| Capt Dan,
I think that even though it shakes everyone up, ulitmately, we all settle into our patterns of life.
Once we get used to the prices, we just accept them and carry on, unless it becomes a political issue at the home front and us married folk make changes to keep peace.
It bothers me and I make the mental calulations, but, in reality, 2.50 gas and 3.00 gas are not that much different. Every time we hit a gas milestone, it becomes the talk of the town and the media. Like the weather, we can do little about it (in the short term), but we like to talk about it.]
My two cents,
Jim |

| After reading how much fuel an engine uses at different throttle positions, I'm slowing down to 3/4's and enjoying the ride to get to my spots.... maybe it's because it's my second year with my new boat and I don't feel the need to put the hammer down all the time!!

| I wish I could say it will not matter but the truth is I only make so much money and every thing else keeps going up so I will have to change something to make the money cover all that is needed. I think guys fortune enuff to have high paying jobs compared to a lower paying job will have diffrent opinions. So yes I will not be able to do as much fishing as in the past. |

Location: McFarland, WI | I will use my business vehicle (a diesel) to pull the boat on long trips and travel more by land than by sea when searching around Green Bay (which will mean using some different unfamiliar launches). An extra $50 on gas pulls something from the budget.

Location: Neenah Wi | I plan on fishing closer to my home waters.Would have been nice to fish some new water but we will see what the finances look like as we get closer to the summer months.I could always quit going to the grocery store and save some there.Hey thats it,I guess I won't have to cancel after all.Opps forgot about the kids.Oh well I'll have to find something else to cut I guess.I think the 3/4 throttle idea is a good one that purple skeeter has. |

| Last Year I fished 8 tournaments, and this year only 5. It has forced me to cut back, and like the previous post said I run my boat at optimum speed for fuel mileage, even in the tourney's.
Next year I may even cut back more and fish locally.
Michigan Walleye Tour numbers are down so far, I think the overall economy has alot to do with all of our fishing addictions.

Location: Darboy, wi | I think the gas prices take their toll on everybody in one way or another. My truck gets 10 miles to the gallon pulling my boat, witch sucks! So I have a few ways of cutting back and one is going out to eat only once a week instead of twice, and fishing closer to home like riser has mentioned, and backing off the trottle is a must for me. I also thought of only buying one case of beer a week instead of two, but that's not going to happen!!!! The best idea so far is I will take more friends fishing and they can pay for the gas. |

| I am fishing the same number of tournaments as last year (5), but won't be pre-fishing the weekend prior to them. Can't justify two round trips with hotel, meals etc. I will compensate by going to the tournament one day earlier, so net I lose one day of pre-fishing.
The weekends prior to tournaments will be spent at home with family along with some tournament prep work. I may have to work on that golf swing a little more as well. |
