Location: Neenah Wi | I was just reading the crawler thread and was reminded of my younger days of fishing. We too would go to the dam in Menasha and catch and sell to the folks from the southern end of the state for some fun money. And going to the hardware store in Menasha to buy my first cane pole for $1.25.I just could not wait to get my first casting rod and reel after watching the older kids and adults with theirs. After getting the new casting rod and reel we could go down to Little Lake Bute des Morts at night and fish for bullhead and make some spending money that way too.Boy we sure had alot of places to fish when we were younger. Now it seems you can't go to most of these places for fear of getting a fine for tresspassing.Kind of stinks for the younger ones now.But you do with what you can I guess. My fondest memories were when we would get to go "up north"to one of my parents friends or relatives cottages.Like purple skeeter said "to be 10 again"not that I'm not grateful and having fun still.PS and Rich we probably fished together as kids I would imagine. We did not find out about the dam until we were alittle older and able to go farther from home as we lived near the little lake on third st. Lets hear some others. Not much else to do on such a lousy day.Well not lousy I could be at w##k sorry for the 4 letter word.

| I started fishing alot when I was 5, and got my first row boat that year. I lived in several states, but my parents always made sure we were close to water I could fish. I caught so many gills and bass, crappies and sunnies from shore I'm sure if I had a nickle for each I'd be pretty happy. I picked my own crawlers, seined my own minnows, and filleted my own fish once I learned how. I live up north now, and moved because of the fishing south not being as accessable or fun. Lots of opportunities here, my kids grew up fishing from shore and when they were old enough, a boat stored at a resort for a small fee. There were plenty of bike rides dragging a stringer back to the house for cleaning and then the frying pan. I have a 2 year old and 1 year old grandson now, and am looking forward to the shore fishing for redhorse, gills, crappies, and more.
'Take me fishing, because I miss my boy.'
That's for sure. | |

| Well. Growing up on the banks of the Sheboygan River, I remember that the spring was a time when we would ride our dirt bikes down to the river and fish for the elusive white sucker. We didnt care what kind of fish we caught, just as long as we were catching fish or at the very least fishing.
When I was younger than that, dad would go with me to the river and he would sucker fish with me and we would have a blast. Throwing out three way rigs into the current and then putting the rods into a good old "Y" stick jammed into the mud. We'd sit and watch the rod tips, talk about all kinds of stuff, catch a few suckers, maybe a rainbow trout or two, listening to the single speaker transistor radio playing those AM Gold hits of the seventies.
Thats just one of the great times as a kid. I'm sure we all have great memories! | |

Location: Essexville, MI./Saginaw Bay. | Heres a picture of me, my brother and my Dad below it. I may look like I was old enough to drink in this picture, but I was but 10 years old in 1962, standing behind my brother (the little twerp) who was carded in most Bars until he was 35 years old. Since I quit smoking 16 years ago though, he has since caught up to me in wrinkles and leathery skin. My dad started me off in his layout boat hunting ducks (watching) when I was but 5 years old. He raised me and my brother by himself from the time we were 3 and 4 years old, until he married again when I was 16. I know everybody here realizes just how hard a job that was for a man in his mid-30's. Where dad went we went with him always. Bowling leagues, golfing leagues, fishing, hunting or just out. And fishing and hunting was where you could find all of us whenever dad had any time off from work. I reached a milestone this past Thursday, May 11th. I turned 54 years old. Thats the same age Dad was in January of 1978, (almost 2 years to the day of the picture below) when he had his heart attack and died. Dad was a very special/loving man, and I'd give all I own to have him back for one more trip on the water.
