Location: Green Bay, WI. | I can pickup some Daiwa SG17LCA's for $72 ea. That's $17.00 cheaper than the 27's. Has anybody bought these? Are they as tough as their sister. I like the idea of being a little smaller & lighter. Thanks, Pat |

Location: Green Bay, WI | No, They are not any where as good as the 27's. I had a set for trolling just mono and the size was perfect, but I had problems with all of them. I sent them back to Diawa and thankfully they lost them and replaced them with 27s. My choice. Stick with the 27's. Capt. Doug |

| I have 9 of them and I use them all summer and fall... they get a lot of use and I love them.... with boards, the line goes out much easier then the 27's and I have had no problem landing 10# Walleyes with them. I run both Fireline and 10# XT. I bought them because I had so many problems with the Accudepths. I would highly recommend them for everything other than salmon.
Plus, I think it is a lot more fun reeling in normal Walleyes because the 27's are too big for a 15-20 inch Walleye... you might as well use a winch!!

Location: Waukesha Wisconsin | anonymous poster,
Thanks for reminding me of the problems I had two years ago when the reels first came out. This old mind totally forgot about that experience and wish I was not forced to remember it again.
Now that you have rattled my brain, I still like the shape and size of the 17’s and the replacement reels that I have AFTER returning the originals, have worked flawlessly.
Not trying to confuse or change the facts. Just forgot.
Since we are posting threads ........ Pat, here's one that you may want to check out:

| I must have the new versions..... I purchased 6 of mine at the beginning of last year and the other 3 over the winter... So far, I have had only one problem with a used one I bought on e-bay... and that was the problem that you described in the link. It took a while for Diawa to fix the reel and return it to me, but everything seems fine on the used reel.
I seriously have not had any problem with any of the 9 new ones I purchased... but at least now I know why the used one needed to be fixed!

Location: Manitowoc WI | Bigger is better, a set of 17's would be nice for bago. but I love to have the gear ratio of the 27 when fishing big water. Spend the extra money and you will have a more versitile reel. I use my 27's for everything even bows / kings. |

Location: Green Bay, WI | I had clutch problem and the anti-reverse didn't work all the time. Frankly, I would trade all my new Diawas for the old ones. I have had a lot of little problems with all my new Diawas, the biggest being the line getting behind the spool which can lead to other problems, like breaking the clicker. I had the old ones for 8 year and never a problem. I have 20 line counters and have had issues with everyone of them. The Diawa overall hold up mechanically better than the rest, I don't know about the Shimano, hard the spend $160 when I can get Diawas SG27LCAs for $65. Besides the Shimano are heavier and I like how light the diawas are. Capt. Doug |

| Anyone have problems with the line wrapping arount the inner spool behind the cover ? Have tried using them & they seem to get the line inside the spool by letting out the line. Had the line put on @ a store, thought maybe too much line. Took some off but still same issue. Anyone else have this ? |

Location: Waukesha Wisconsin | I had this happen with ACCUDEPTHS. It was the main reason that I stopped using them. I have not had this problem with Sealines but here is a thread that many of you should read. Please notice that it's from 2002. This was a problem with the original reels......

Location: Westland, Mich. | the 17's are great. the first batch had a poorly designed Anti-Reverse Ratchet. they made up new ones that they would put in if you sent the reel back or they would send them to you for self installation, about 20 min per reel. the ones made after the fitst 8-9 months of production have the new part and work flawlessly. there

may still be a few out there but, you can test a reel before you buy it. there are 9 detents in the Anti-Reverse Ratchet for each revolution of the crank handle. each produces a faint click as the ratchet passes it. turn the handle till you hear a click, turn over the clutch lever at each click. a good reel will have a clutch lever that turns over completly and smoothly without any binding at each click.
a follow up post to the one dennis cited.

the repair if you have a bad reel and daiwa sends you the new part.
