Well tomorrow is the day. I am either buying a minn kota or a motorguide. I need your help on this...Things I like...variable speed, foot pedal, not having to keep my foot on the pedal to keep the direction I want to go, and power. I have an 18 ft Sylvan fiberglass boat that is pretty heavy. I am not looking to break the bank just need something that will move me through the fox and wolf rivers. I have a 65 lb 24 volt minn kota maxuum now and I am looking to move up to about 70 lbs of thrust and not a maxuum model since you basically keep your foot on the pedal at all times. I prefer to stick with minn kota for mounting and electrical purposes but will switch if I have to. I don't need sonar or autopilot features if it means a lot more money. Just a affordable qaulity and powerful motor. Thanks Bob "FLYMAN"

My choice would be the Minn Kota Autopilot, in 80 lb thrust. I know, you said you don't need it. But for me, that is the deciding feature. So OK, then take your pick. MotorGuide, or Minn Kota Power Drive. Zach's new MotorGuide was quick as a cable steer, and had plenty of power for his 1890.

Thanks for the input..I settled on a 24 volt 70 lb power drive from Minn Kota. It should have enough power for what I use it for. Holy man though batteries are expensive though. Over $100 for trojan trolling motor batteries. Two of them are almost half the cost of the motor. I think I will go with the Minn Kota batteries by Trojan for $40 less and still a good battery I think, Bob

I am running the new MotorGuide Wireless 74#, and love it. VERY fast response time, positive steering, and easy control of speed and direction.

For just an additional 279.00 you can add Total Boat Control to your motor from Re-actionsystem. You said you want variable speed, how about variable compensating speed. Your tap switch becomes the variable speed throttle when tapped. The pedal speed is overidden by the Re-actionsystem and truly offers hands free fishing in variable wind, wave, and current conditions. I know this sounds like a commercial but I believe this is an outstanding addition to my fishing arsenal and thought I would share. Dan Rusty Palmer [email protected]
