Caught 3 sauger Wed. evening all in the 15-16" range. Very fat! Also caught a few small ones in the 10" range. All went back in. All caught on #7 shads 50 feet back.

When do you think the DNR will allow us to keep sauger again. Seems like the population is coming back as I've been catching some nice one for a few years now. It's tough throwing them back in cuz they are so fat but I have to cuz they are still protected.

If I caught 5 the other night in a short period of time....don't you all think others are catching them too. Hopefully throwing them back too. I myself don't think all know the difference between a sauger and a walleye so they are being kept by some. Very easy to tell though.

A sauger or also known as a sandpike has black spots on the top dorsal fin and is brown in color with no white on the tip of the tail.

Should the DNR open the season back up after they spawn , like say after Memorial weekend or not. What do you all think?

I would be on the look out for sauger because the warden is keeping an eye out and the fine is pretty steep. So if your not sure throw it back.As for the reports.Lots of looking but not many replying. But its getting better.Don't matter I'll still be posting my results as I don't tournament fish.I'll be out on Mon or tues on Poygan as I'm working this weekend.
