Well I havent fished for some time.

but got the idea I would start again this year. Everything I had was stolen. I have been getting a fair share of Eyes off Petenwell just jigging. But looking to do a little trolling....

Not going to go planer board route yet as I have no clue. But just looking for some crank bait options that seem to work well. I know this is going to very wildly from person to person and lake to lake. But if you had 200 bucks to go to Gander/Cabelas and you were just going to purchase trolling lures what would they be.... sizes and colors. Kinda looking for lures that are consistent. Eventually I will have the box filled up with more to switch around and such. Just looking to get going.

thanks

Depends a lot on the fishery you plan to troll. If you were going to concentrate on Lake Poygan for instance, small Shad Raps, Ruff Guys by Dave's Kaboom, small Wally Diver's are just a fraction of the small "lipped" baits that are popular. Add some small or "baby" Husky jerks and Yozuri "Pin's Minnmow" in the mix too, along with a couple of other small "stick" baits.

For "Bago" you'd need to have some baits that have the ability to go deeper. I'd go with the Winning Streaks, some "old" Deep Jr's if you can still find them. I also like some of the "banana baits" from my Lake Erie box but can't remember their name right now.

Not sure what, or if, they troll much on Petenwell but I'm sure that every body of water has it's "go to" style of bait. If you were going to learn to "rod in hand" troll a shoreline break you may want to be stocking up on big Husky Jerks, Rattling Rouges and other baits such as that.

Planers are easy, start with one off each side and make sure you have a reel with a good "clicker" for when you start fishing multiple boards off one side. (lets you give the board more line in a pretty much hands free manner)

Good Luck, I resisted for a long time but enjoy it today.

Thank you... mostly will be on Petenwell. We have been trolling with rods in hand some of the breaks... that lake is pure sand bottom, as soon as you get off shore about 50 yds goes from 7 ft to 25-30 ft instantly. We troll those breaks and have good luck... when I say we I should say my friends.

but the rod in hand thing is good for one rod only......

Been pulling in some good walleyes this way but just looking for a bit of help. Been catching monster crappies trolling for eyes too... 14 inch whoppers.

I would go with the Kaboom's Ruff guy, mean streak, and deep nitro shiner. Wally divers are popular on Petenwell. The deep nitro shiner is better than the old deep jr's. Give them a try.

another option for trolling without boards is some long 10' rods set in a rod holder allowing room for the rod in hand as well. Definatly a good asortment of shad style baits.
