Just got back from the Finn Road ramp and talking to the dredging contractor. The ramp was suppose to be ready for opening by the 4th of July, but a few changes changed that opening date. For one, Hampton township decided to dredge out another 1,000 feet past the original plans and had to wait for new permits from the DNR to do so. Those permits arrived today and the work has resumed. This will bring the channel almost out to the first 5 foot ledge that runs parallel and East and West along that shoreline. The estimated opening now is in 3 weeks, but the contractor tells me some 14 and 16 foot boats are already launching and walking their boats the 100 feet or so out to deep enough water. The turnaround/launch basin has also been dredged by the same contractor, while he was waiting for the new permits so that part has been taken care of. He also tells me that there is a massive rock that they cannot get to budge, approximately 295 feet past the wind sock at the end of the walkway land peninsula. It's on the right side going out and is about 3 feet below the water line. They have no instructions or info on rather this rock will be marked or not.
