Location: Essexville, MI./Saginaw Bay. | Got a call last night from a guy at Advanced Air Technologies in Corunna. He had a party of 6 that wanted to go fishing this morning. After checking the Wind and waves for the Bay, I was satisfied with the 1 foot or less forecast so we booked for a 1/2 day starting this morning. But about an hour later I caught the Weather Channel forecast for 10 to 20 MPH S/SW winds. Figuring the one was right but would be fallowed closely by the other, I called the guy back and moved back our meeting time to get a few hours in before she blew up.
Got to my boat just after daylight and the Bay was flat. My clients showed up soon afterwards and we were off. 3 of the clients were from Israel and were in Corunna looking at the Industrial Scrubbers that Advanced Tech sells. These Scrubbers were going to be used in the lab of the Telavive Hospital. I decided to head as far North as I would usually go to start with, and troll back towards shore in case the predicted winds and storms started early. Set all four 1/4 Winning Streaks 90 back and went to the 3/8 side with crankmeat and set them out 90 feet as well. Looked over on the 1/4 ounce side and 3 rods were bent with fish. Landed all of them and then there were 3 more on the crankmeat side.
I've never personally seen so many fish on my X-15, high and low ever. This carnage continued non stop for over an hour all the way to "A" buoy and 16FOW. About 1 keeper to every 4 fish landed. I turned around and we trolled back with fewer hits. Then about 9:40am a gust of wind that almost blew straight down hit us. It then went from flat to 2 foot chop in 10 minutes. By the time I cleared lines they were 3's. Back at the dock, 9 in the box by 10:30am.
I really liked this whole day. I don't know how all of you feel about what's going on in Israel, and I won't start a political debate about it here. But I very much enjoyed talking to and listening to what these fine men had to say about it. I was also very much on my best behavior, even when we broke what was about a 6 pounder off at the back of the boat. I simply smiled and said "you win some and you loose some" versus my usual declaratives.

Location: Port Washington, wisconsin | Dan, more good lunch time reading, thanks. Same thing happened to my son and I last nite salmon fishing here in Port Washington. Weather forecast was for calm. Kept gettin darker and darker as we fished for maybe an hour and a half. Landed a doubler of kings, and said lets wrap it up. Lighting on the horizon. Put the last strap on the Lund and all heck broke loose. Ah Great Lakes fishing! One eye on the rods and one on the sky! | |
