' Jay Weber clearly qualified for the award according to the determination of the Sponsors of the Lund Boats -Mercury Outboards -Optima Battery Challenge. He had changed over his batteries to Optima in early spring before the first event, and clearly was the winner at the end of the PWT regular schedule. Congratulations to Jay Weber, and we welcome him to the 2007 PWT Super Pro next year.'
I asked Charlie who was next in line, and according to the scoring he believed Bob Probst Jr. was second.
I asked Mr. Moore to clarify if the Lund Boats-Mercury Outboards-Optima Battery Challenge was offered as a 'competitive incentive' by the Sponsors to those anglers who chose to outfit their rigs accordingly, and was not specifically a PWT sponsored award. His answer was, "That is correct."
Congratulations go out again to Mr. Weber for the win.

PWT Pro Jay Weber Claims Top
Spot as Optima/Lund/Mercury Angler
Fishing the In-Fisherman Professional Walleye Trail Regional tournament series proved doubly rewarding for pro Jay Weber. The Annandale, Minnesota, pro walleye angler, scored two top 10-place finishes while running a Mercury-powered walleye Lund boat equipped with Optima batteries. MotorGuide presents the Regional series.
This special combination of the most popular outboard and boat brand on the PWT tour, rigged with powerful Optima trolling motor and cranking batteries, was Weber’s ticket to the Big Leagues. As a result of the special incentive posted by all three companies, Weber will win a shot to fish the Super Pro series, presented by MinnKota, in 2007. His $8,000 in entry fees will also be paid.
Weber, in his eighth PWT season, netted a $9,000 check for a fifth place finish at Winneconne, Wisconsin in April, then followed that with an identical finish at Mobridge, South Dakota in late July. He qualified for the Mercury Championship, where he has a chance to significantly enhance his 2006 earnings. With two $9,000 checks plus the Super Pro entries, his tournament winnings for the year (to date) total $26,000.
The contingency program was installed at the beginning of the season to reward anglers fishing with these premium products. Many of the top Lund/Mercury pros were running Optima batteries. Weber finished ninth in the Regional Series.
Fishing the Super Pro series in 2007, Weber will be the 61st angler at the start of the season. The Super Pro is an invitational to the top 60 pros based on past PWT successes. By claiming this honor, Weber will not displace any other qualifiers.
The PWT Regional and Super Pro series dates are set, and sites are being finalized, along with tour details. The goal is to announce specifics at the Mercury Championship in Bismarck, North Dakota, Oct. 13-15.
