I had my court trial yesterday and the judge dismissed it. The deputy wasn't real convincing and I think Judge Schmidt saw that. I also had enough pictures to show that parking on the grass happens all the time. Ginny did a great job on the stand and we were able to prevail. In his decision, the judge said that if they don't want us on the grass they should put up signs, ropes or chains. The parks people don't mind if we park there.

Thanks to all of those who supported me over the last couple of months. That $131.40 plus court costs can now go into my gas tank for more fishing.

Dale thanks for the update on your ticket and its unfortunate that you had to go through the system(your time and effort) to prove the ticket had no validity.I hope mr Friday and a few others that made post promoting the officers actions now realize that "yes just because there is no sign it does mean you can park on the grass".

Dale,
Thanks for the followup. I am glad to hear you prevailed under the circumstances. I am still nervous about parking on the grass. What will you do next time? Grass or pass.
Take care,
Jim O

Way to go Dale! Glad to see you prevail. I hope you got to give the Deputy a big smile, although he probably bailed before the Judge ruled. I'm sure he really didn't care about the outcome.

If the parking lot is full I'll park on the grass as long as it's not posted. The way I see it is this: The county has sold a lot of annual permits and continues to sell 1 day permits for occaisional users. That's a lot of parking spaces. The parks dept. DOES NOT want people ticketed. That comes from Bob Way, the County Parks Director and from the 2 Rangers I've talked to. The parking permit revenue is being used for improvementsbut there just isn't enough to work on all of the sites at the same time. I would like to see Grundman (Winn. Cty.) Landing expanded for parking, as well as a lane for rigging boats for launch, just to keep things flowing smoothly on busy days. I would be happy with just a gravel surface. The drawback is this: I've heard that when Mr. Grundman donated this land he specified that a certain amount be greenspace. (Don't know if that's true or not) If you take a look, there are some trees there that are dead or dying. They have to come down anyway. Hell, if the county asks, I'll cut them down myself. My wife even has an idea in mind for a design for the expansion.

I wonder if enough interest could be shown by clubs and individuals to volunteer time to do some of the work to cut expenses for the county.

POWER TO THE PEOPLE Jay, POWER TO THE PEOPLE.
