This is very true River Eyes. Some come in as early as late October in my area and stay in the lower river system all winter, then any left downstream will fallow/continue upstream with the spring arrivals for the spring spawn. What draws them in early mainly is the baitfish that crowd into the rivers themselves during this time. Most of these baitfish are seeking the warmer water temps of the river as the main body of the Bay cools down below their comfort zones. Some of these early walleyes seem to be more river oriented than others that stay out in the big water until warm spring rains signal their spawning urges. This is mother natures way of insuring against natural disasters that may wipe out one wave of spawners.

Thanks! now I know Im not crazy or seeing things because... last fall I was out deer shining and I stoped by several bridges on a river that feeds from a really big lake, so I shined the light down thinking I would see some catfish but lord behold the whole water light up with big shiney EYES! I told a few freinds who did not belive me and shooke their head like I was nuts or something. I guess it isint known real well. I also wont tell them anymore, LoL.
