I was wondering how many from this site might be interested in a Walleye Club in the LaCrosse, WI area. There are some clubs in other parts of the state, but I think it's a shame we don't have one here.

I was thinking $20 or $25 annual membership to cover the costs the club would have for hosting the monthly meetings. I would start a members board to help run the club and make decisions. We were thinking of having a few club tournies on area waters.

We would cover the following waters. The Mississippi, Petenwell, Castle Rock, Lake Onalaska, and more. We would also have some speakers and seminars covering topics like "Gearing up for big water", "River Plastics", "Electronics 101", etc...

I will post this on a few other sites as well to see what kind of interest we get. I will seriously get the ball rolling on this if we can get enough people interested.

It's never easy to start a Club, especially if there's no umbrella group like Walleyes For Tomorrow or the like. Perhaps an affiliation to an existing group over there might be an easier sell.

Marshall,

You met a few of the members of our club, NIWC, during the year. THius is our third year and we are growing stronger and bigger each year. You can get intouch with me and I will give you any info we have on hiow we did it and how we continue. I would like to see an umbrella organization formed, so I welcome the chance to help you start a club.

Thanks for the reply guys. We have a good opprotunity to advertise to a lot of locals at the anual Stoddard Big Walleye tourney in April. They usually get about 600 entrants. I would think we would be able to get some new members from that big group.

I would just like to get the ball rolling so we can be set up and running before then, so those potential members can see that we are started up and ready to go.

Greg,

I'll take you up on that sometime. I've been in Chicago on business the last few days, and hope to get a little more active with this project now.

Thanks

Why not look into becoming a chapter of an existing club? Walleyes for Tomorrow, and Walleyes Unlimited come to mind. I know WFT has several chapters, not sure about WU.

Does walleyes for tomarrow run a actuall club where there are monthly meetings and functions of a club, or are they a DU style setting where you gett together once a year to make money? That would help this guy to decide what he is looking for in his area.

I am unaware of any "umbrella" organization for walleye clubs.... The bass cluns have the Federation and BASS, but I do not know of anything for us. Walleyes Unlimited clubs appear to be totally autonomous....

I would love for an umbrella organization to exist...

After doing some more research, it looks like most of the larger organizations are not really club type organizations. I think that Bass fishing clubs do tend to have a bit more of a standardized format for these types of things.

The main difference is, that the Bass clubs have been around for a lot longer, and cover much more of the country. It would be nice if we knew of maybe the top 5 Walleye organiztions to use as models or for ideas. Unfortunately, my side of the state does not have to much for clubs. We do have the Falling Rock Walleye Club, but that is almost an hour south of us.

I have had some interest in this and will continue to persue it. Thanks for all of the input. Feel free to shoot me a message or post here if any of you have ideas or comments.

Thanks,
