Boat size on bago

gpnfish Posted 10/3/2006 8:57 PM (#47923) Subject: Boat size on bago How big of a boat do you need to fish Bago for walleyes? I have a Alumacraft Lunker 16.5 single console with a 50HP outboard. Always hearing about it being Big water and wonder if my boat is big enough for most normal WI conditions (10-15mph winds), if there is such a thing. The way the lake runs, I would think that westerlies or Swesterlies would be safest bet. Thoughts? Thanks. Shore wind, better than lake wind, as they say on the east side. Yep, can get ugly, pick your days and dont be nuts. On more than a few occassions, I skipped fishing due to the waves. Get a noaa radio, helps a bit. Some rougher days I was able to be on the lake because I worked areas protected from the winds. Where I live and launch, even strong winds out of the W-NW were manageable. I would have been out more often, but some days it just wasn't safe. Had to pick my days, as a rule. I have since upgraded to a Lund 1775. It not only handles rougher water, but has reduced the size of the lake, if you will, with extended fuel capacity, and speed. Quite an investment though. This boat worked very well, even on rough water, It had a counsole and steering wheel. The 40 Mariner Magnum trolled very well so I didn't need a kicker. Now I'm trying to figure out why I sold it to get a bigger one!
